Hello I just installed a new Denon AVR-S910W, is there a way that I can hook it up to my cable box and tv so I can watch a sporting event and play music at the same time?

Only if you have the cable box connected directly to the TV. You will select the cable box on the TV and your audio source on the receiver.

At least as far as I know. Maybe someone else has a better answer.

I believe so. If that receiver is anything like my Marantz, it will allow you to set HDMI input for video only on audio only sources so the video is still fed to the television while you enjoy your music.

I suggest whipping out the user manual and read any part that has to do with HDMI input assignment.

On my Denon X4000, yes, there is an easy way... but with conditions.

The music source must be from NETWORK, CD on my remote. It is important to note that my CD source is 2 analog cables from the Bluray/CD player to the Receiver. My BLU-RAY source, from the same Bluray/CD player is HDMI cable to the Receiver.

Bottom line, this method doesn't work if your music source comes to your receiver via HDMI cable.

So if you have a music source that is NOT connected to your receiver via HDMI, try this:
1) Turn your TV on to the proper channel, (thru your AVR normally).
2) Play your music, selecting the appropriate source on your AVR remote.
3) Press OPTION on your AVR remote.
4) Press VIDEO SELECT
5) Turn VIDEO SELECT On - (Source should be showing Cbl/Sat for your TV video).
When you're done, simply repeat and turn VIDEO SELECT Off.

This works for me on an X4000. Can listen to CD or Pandora while watching TV.
