How do I improve my setup from here?

I have a pair of KRK VXT 6's hooked into my computer's soundcard (Creative X-fi Xtreme Audio) through TRS to RCA converter to RCA to Stereo 3.5 converter. They are about 3ft apart from each other and infront of me on my computer desk.

Speaker specs:

What would you guys say is the next step in improving the setup?

SPL Meter?
Speaker stands?
Room treatment?
Subwoofer?
Better soundcard?
More direct way of connecting speakers to audio source?

I am clueless. I guess the next step I want to take is the one with the best cost/improvement ratio.

At the moment, but I'd definitely be willing to change that if I'd get better sound.

What subs would you recommend and how would I hook them up?

The X-Fi is reasonably sophisticated and has many speaker-outs. I wonder if you cannot program a low-pass filter on it and make "stereo sub out" straight from your PC.

You may want to do a little research there. I might do some myself.
