This thread is the largest pile of crap. Complaining that kids of today have no respect, just like old cranks have done throughout the ages. You seriously think bored kids vandalizing graves is something new? I don't remember a time when that sort of thing didn't happen. And then I read crap like, "The question is, can America be great again?" Hmm, where have I heard that foolish rhetoric before? All this griping as crime rates have been falling for the last 25 years. That says to me that kids today have better character than back in the day of many of us. Sorry to give you some perspective, but your generation isn't superior to today's generation. The USA is a better place now than it was back then. The most you can say is that your generation's music might better than today's music. But the only certain thing that can be said is music of MY generation is the greatest in the history of the world, and that is not debatable!
Well you know Shady you are certainly entitled to your opinion. However, from the looks of it many here are not on the same page as you. If you find this thread crap, then by all means please don't post on it. Maybe even ignore it entirely. To me, it is very sad that a young man would do such things. At the end of the day, regardless of X generation, the young man does not know the value of respect.

Cheers,

Phil

BTW, I am in no way endorsing Bernie Sanders or any other candidate for that matter. For the most part, I really don't care too much for ANY of them. But, I still have faith that we can turn things around for the better. It will take some time to do so.

Cheers,

Phil

Folks, like many home towns that celebrate our fallen heroes that have given all for our country. Mine is no different. However, someone decided to destroy our plan to honor those that gave their lives for us all. How could someone do this? How disrespectful could someone be? I am at a loss for words:

http://www.14news.com/story/32087952/arrest-made-after-160-memorial-day-crosses-were-damaged-at-henderson-park

The crosses are displayed in central park every year for Memorial Day. Have been so proud of my community for doing so. Then, this happens! Just blatant disrespect! :(:(:(:(

Cheers,

Phil
Ironically, he will enjoy the presumption of innocence, due process of law, and the right to competent counsel, largely because of the 18 and 19 year old kids who bled to death, crying for their mamas, in God forsaken places like Belleau Wood, Tarawa and Chosin Reservoir.

This is a helluva country.

+1. I nominate this for Post of the Year.

Don't know about the 18-19 year old kids that bled to death. But, Mr. Burrus will get due-process of the law just as any of us would. Just seen an interview where he is apologizing to the community for what he has done. There was even a cross of his Grandfather on display. Hopefully, Mr. Burrus will learn from his mistakes.

Cheers,

Phil

Seriously, I have no life.
I don't know if it's all of CA or just SF, but they changed the laws for shoplifting such that if it's under 1K the penalty is a citation and cops won't even come to investigate or pursue since it's not worth the expense. I don't think many store owners are pleased.
A WI state rep(tile) recently said WalMart shoplifters shouldn't be prosecuted. Right- and this will have no impact on everyone's insurance rates? He doesn't care.

If they can't prosecute, they should be able to search people INSIDE of the store, but not randomly- only if they have seen the person conceal something. Used to be that they couldn't approach until the shoplifters walked through the first set of doors but with the cameras, they don't need to lose much merchandise because they have people watching, constantly.

Update on the auto theft crash- the 8 year old son died. I think it's time for some serious justice- none of this "Well, his mom says he goes to church and he's been eating his vegetables, so let's let him off with time served" crap.

Come to Milwaukee- I seriously doubt you would think this way after seeing all of the crap going on here.

Shady has a point. Kids in all generations have done stupid and un-thinking things. I did too. It doesn't mean they're bad people. Just means they're immature kids doing stupid things without thinking. Perhaps this kid was just particularly stupid, but this was pushing the line pretty far. I don't know.

However, it is undeniable the general climate of the country has changed.
I remember when the political hero of the day said, "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.". I remember liberals of every ilk cheering.

I think 2 of the candidates today could completely reverse that quote, and receive the same cheers. And those cheering people are teaching their kids corresponding values. My, how far we've come.

All very valid points here. However, at the end of the day it still comes down to Mr. Burrus not knowing the value of respect. He was being interviewed from our local jail yesterday. Claims that he does NOT remember any of it. Furthermore, Mr. Burrus asked to be released from jail so he could help fix what he had destroyed. Even apologizing to the community here. BTW, Mr. Burrus is 26 or 27-years of age. I personally don't call that a "kid". More like a young man imho.

Cheers,

Phil

Commendable. I hope his sensibilities, along with whatever punishment he receives, are enough to make a lasting impression.

Agreed! Hopefully, Mr. Burrus will learn from this. Perhaps, being a turning point in his life. We all make mistakes. The question is, however, can we grow from them. Mr. Burrus is young enough to turn things around.

Cheers,

Phil

I tend to agree with the concept that those who complain about the youth of today have forgotten how god-awful the youth of before were. When I was in school, kids were lazy and did drugs, and the rest. It wasn't a time when America was 'great', and there was no time in our history where America really was. But, we've always had great things which went on in our history, and bad things to go along with it.

One of my personal favorites is when someone expresses their first amendment right of free speech, in some way which someone else disagrees with, and that person suggests that they should go move to another country. As if people who want change for the nation they live in and love are the ones who are the problem. Or that freedom should only apply to those who don't choose to use it.

So, anyone that finds this thread to be crap, please feel free to post in it. Feel free to act as an American and use the free speech (within moderator limits!) you have been granted. If someone wants to rule over your speech, and deny others that actual constitutional right, then perhaps it is they who needs to consider moving to a country that limits such speech.

Oh, and I think those who think this thread is crap probably are referring to the insulting comments applied to all youth of today. Not the actions of one stupid young man ripping through a highly honorable display. I wish nothing but the best for our vets and cherish the lives lost throughout the years.
