How close are we to WWIII?

I wonder if we will see another civil war of sorts in the US with that a??hole dictator spinning all kinds of lies while the people in the US begin suffering from his dumbf?ck tarriffs.
Depends. Are you prepared to stab your neighbors to death with a bayonet or cut the head off of your cousin? If no, I'd bet most the rest of the country isn't either. Sadly, the media plays on this fear for ad sales and page hits. Civil Wars aren't fought in far off places. It's nice and close to home. I'm no expert, but having spent over 2 years in Iraq at the height of Ramadi I can tell you we're no where near that level of hate. Give either administration 10-20 years of actual oppression and maybe. But taking away my TikTok or raising the price of my AVR ain't doing it for me. But what do I know...

Fortunately and unfortunately, it can't be explained and needs to be experienced. I'm my life, I've seen horrors that make words feel useless. Things that people in first world nations pretend doesn't exist. Nature is cruel, but not done with evil intent. That's only something humans can do.

Eh, anyway. This is a hobby page. Why discuss something so terrible? Thank god for music. I'm heading back over to the "what are you listening to now" thread. I'd suggest we all take a breath and do the same. Save the news for the 5-6 pm hour. You get local news/weather/sports followed by 5 mins per national story all done before dinner. There's no way to get upset with anything in 5 mins. My $.02 anyway.

Well as an outsider looking in, America is as divided as I have ever seen it. Maybe you're already in a civil war and don't know it. Leaders like Trump, Putin, and Netanyahu pump up the hate rhetoric with their words and their actions and there will always be lemmings who follow such rhetoric blindly because they are incapable of independent and critical thinking.

Yeah, no. If you think rhetoric on Twitter or Facebook means we're in a civil war, well I'd say take a US Civics Class. Vietnam War had WAY MORE GOING ON and yet, neighbor wasn't killing neighbor. Civil Rights movement, anti-war protests, assassinations, drugs, political unrest (Nixon). I mean, lay off the social media and 24/7 news cycles and maybe go listen to some Miles and hit some THC.

Not neighbors killing neighbors, but extremists planted a bomb that killed a researcher at University of Wisconsin-Madison, described in the link. After all of t he years since it happened, I remembered the name Karleton Armstrong- not sure how destroying the Mathematics Department building would help their cause, but when someone goes off the rails,.....

As tragic as that was and all other incidents of needless violence, we are not anywhere near a civil war. Neighbor killing neighbor is that. The rest are crackpots that get far too much attention by the media and national news. At best, they deserve a paragraph under most local paper crimes reports. Don't fall to "everyone hates each other", "MAGA vs. Liberal", "radicals are everywhere". etc. 85% of the population just go to work, home, and hug their loved ones. I'm not gonna let "X" convince me we're in "end times".

WRT mainstream media- "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain". Talk to people, don't just listen to the bullshyte in the news. Remember, the media has made it possible for candidates to win and lose elections- Charlie Rose, Nora O'Donnel and others were absolutely dumbfounded when Trump was elected the first time and sat there, on camera, asking "How could we have been so wrong?". Well, when they spent the previous three and a half years TELLING the American news viewers who they should vote for, it's easy to wonder but if someone was sitting on the sidelines and watching/listening to all of the crap pouring out of their mouths, it becomes a matter of "Don't tell me who to vote for!".

The candidates dig their own holes and try to bury their opponents and the way it happens in the US is absolutely disgraceful. Win a debate, don't sling mud. Also, the information overload with false claims makes it hard to vet the comments when people are trying to have a life outside of politics. Then, there's the stupid amount of money that's pissed away onb elections. They all talk about "I'm here for the little guy/poor/disadvantaged, etc". all while spending more than a billion dollars.

People are too willing to believe whatever they hear when it resonates- more people need to step back and look at the whole picture before making decisions.
