How close are we to WWIII?

Terrorist attacks on US bases that exist at the request of other countries? Our business. Terrorist attacks on US interests? Our business. Who has the rest of the world traditionally called if they had a problem? Have you paid attention to what European leaders say about whether they can deal with direct attacks by Russia? Iran doesn't need to fund the Houthis, Hamas, Hezbollah or other terrorist groups but they do because they all share their ideology, even if its not complete agreement.

Like it or not, the US does help other countries when most don't lift a finger. As much as Trump is effing things up and as belligerent as he can be, we'll still be there for our allies.
I point you to NMG's post. The US doesn't help allies unless there are gains to be made by the US. Venezuela is the perfect example. US wants their oil and wants Cuba.

The current mess in Iran can be directly correlated with the US interference back in the 70s supporting the Shaw. Trump showed the world how he treats his allies.

Seriously, I have no life.
I heard that as well, has that been factually confirmed ? regardless, didn't Hedgehog make the statement a couple weeks back that we could fly unabated ?
Yes, both of them. Good name you are using. :D

DW News (on PBS) said Trump earlier in the week stated we can just bomb them to death. I remember on YT a guy saying bomb em even more. I guess we don't need to ration. Anyway, the way he said it was like a caricature.

As I posted, not a rhetorical question.
We all know what happened. When the US and Israel started their attacks in February, I remember Trump giving numerous, ever changing, justifications. Never once was October 7th mentioned. You can make it a justification if you like, but the US government hasn't. If we want to address Iran's support for terrorists, this is not the way to do it.

Trump two days ago:

>>>He further claimed Iran’s air defenses had been eliminated. "They have no anti-aircraft equipment," Trump said. "Their radar is 100% annihilated. We are unstoppable."<<< (emphasis added)

Rhetorical question: does anyone remember the 53 times Trump said he would end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours Or before) of taking office?

>>>On the campaign trail in 2023 and 2024, Trump said on dozens of occasions, in an entirely serious tone, manner and context, that he would end the war in Ukraine either within 24 hours of his return to the White House or even sooner than that. He said over and over again, including at both presidential debates of 2024, that he would have the war “settled” when he was president-elect, before his inauguration. . . . “Before I even arrive at the Oval Office, I will have the disastrous war between Russia and Ukraine settled. It will be settled quickly. Quickly. I will get the problem solved and I will get it solved in rapid order and it will take me no longer than one day. I know exactly what to say to each of them.”<<<

Apparently, in Trump speak, "quickly" and "no longer than one day" actually means "at least 438 days."

And when Trump says he will "tell it like it is" this actually means "it" is whatever horsesh*t happens to spew out of his mouth at a given moment.

Russia still hasn’t annexed Ukraine, and trumpet hasn’t ended the war .

I saw something about the EU leader and comments about "it's US's war"- I want to know how they're doing with passage through the Straits of Hormuz being closed off and explain how the rest of Europe doesn't benefit from it being open.
Iran has made an offer the EU countries that are not involved in attacking Iran, pay a toll in Euro or Yan, and get passage through the straits.

This would be a serious economic shot across US bows, as it would substantially harm the US$ (petrodollar) as a reserve currency - it is a masterful economic warfare attack, and I believe most of the EU are inclined to take up the offer.

Well, they would probably like the bombing of their territory to stop. So, if Israel and the US stopped, I'm pretty sure they will too. If they don't, Israel and the US can just start it again.

Now, what happens after the bombing stops is a different question. If the Iranian regime was on the fence about continuing their nuclear weapons development program before, they will be greatly motivated to continue now.

The only possible way to have any chance of stopping that will be - you guessed it - boots on the ground.

As for their support for the terrorist groups you mentioned, well I don't have an answer to that. One thing is certain though - starting this war was not even remotely a good idea.
The previous "supreme leader" who was eliminated, was one of the main blockers of Iran building nukes...

He was against it on theological grounds (not so strange for an Ayatollah).

His son, who has been annointed, after the "decapitation strikes" by Israel and the USA killed his father - is less strict about holding off on developing nukes.... (and the rest of the regime is far more inclined since the USA/Israel attack).

In theory they might have been as close as weeks away from a nuke.

Some decades ago, the USA went through the exercise of testing whether smart people could design nukes without access to secrets - ie based on public domain information only... - the answer was yes, and Iran has had years to plan this - now all they need to do in theory is put it together.

USA had help didn’t they during ww2?? Building it ??from various other nations . Germany would had one if they didn’t rush to go to Russia and lose . They had no real allies with land armies .
Iran will be dust once the USA is done with this campaign? They won’t stop trying to make one though .

If I were Europe, I would do the same because Trump with his terrifs and annexation threats has clearly shown that the US cannot be relied on as a trusted ally. He and his clusterf?ck enterouage has successfully isolated tbe US from the rest of the world and he's only halfway through his term.

Iran doesn't own the strait. This is EXACTLY the same tactic as what the Barbary pirates used for a long time and only Jefferson had the balls to tell them to pound sand. If anyone believes that Iran will abide by any treaty, they're delusional- they'll just jack up the ransom and continue to buy & enrich Uranium. They already tested their 4000Km rocket- let's see how bad this goes.

Now that the US went in illegally into Iran like they did Venezuela, you can be dammed sure that Iran's resolve to buil nuclear weapons have been hardened. Trump and his clusterf?ck administration failed to factor many aspects of the war including this. I have a feeling that homeland security will be on much higher alert now because of this.

Did they get Congress approval for Iraq either ? Back in desert storm and the war after it .
Or just roll in and wiped them out ? These nations are like a Turkey shoot for western nations. They should just go in and take everything, but what’s so valuable there ? We already have huge oil reserves in USA.

Actually Iran owns half of the straight. Territorial waters extend 12 miles from the shoreline. The straight is 22 miles wide, and the UAE is on the other side. So Iran has jurisdiction over half of the straight and the UAE the other half. International waters begin 12 miles away from the shore line.

I don't think I can understate how goofy the term "holy war" is. Nor how dumb the religious right/Trump evangelical is. It's just toss out the word God when convenient.
