Now my question is what is the best way to connect? I would like to use all hdmi, but I also would like to sometimes watch tv without turning on the home theater. Kind of a newbie here, so any help would be appreciated, Thanks
Best way to connect HDMI:
Connect Direct Tv to Yamaha V663 via HDMI.
Connect PS3 to Yamaha V663 via HDMI
Connect Yamaha V663 to Plasma HDMI.

Now for TV without HT.
Also connect Direct TV to TV via component.
When you want to watch TV without HDMI then select TV source to the component input.

PS3 is harder to change; as far as I know you can only connect one output type that you specify in setup. Most HDMI switchers will only switch the video, unless you get a very expensive one. You could disconnect the HDMI cable from Yamaha and then conenct from PS3 directly to TV via HDMI; but again that is cumbersome.
