My setup is as follows. I have a a ceiling mounted projecter for just component coax running to it. I have my converter box, DVD player, and Projector all hooked into my surround sound ONKYO system. I have tried to hook up my VCR to the RCA(analog) video in on my surround sound system, but the video is not displayed by my projector. Should my ONKYO convert the signal from RCA(analog) to component, then pass it onto my projector? Or will I need to run RCA(analog) connections to my project? I was hoping I could run this all through my ONKYO and let it figure it all out. I do get sound from my VCR tapes in this setup, just no video. thanks in advance.

If you bought that model of Onkyo. You didn't say though. I bought a Cavalier, and I expected it to perform like the Corvette I had taken a test drive in. They are both Chevys after all. Right? {sarcasm off} Always provide model info when discussing a product in question. A brand name doesn't cut it as there are many models. But, most likely, your Onkyo doesn't trandcode from composite to component video and if you want to see your VCR on your projector, you need to run a composite (yellow) cable from the Onkyo to the projector. Some receivers to convert (transcode) between composite, s-video, and component. Some new ones even upconvert to HDMI, but it will say so specifically in the owners manual and often on the specifications for the product.

Projector is Infocus ScreenPlay 4805. DVD/VHS is a Toshiba combo unit SD-V219U, and the cable box is a Motorola DCT6200 distributed by Comcast. Again, everything is working fine except the VHS tapes, I only get sound. If the ONKYO will convert, please let me know how to hook it up. Analog cables running from the Toshibia combo unit to the ONKYO, along with component cables and the DVDs work without any problem. The VHS tapes have sound but no video.
