Hooking up Video through a receiver

The only issue is those cables are composite. That is the lowest quality. In my experience, equipment never includes s-video, component, optical(toslink), or digital coax. Not sure if the HDMI products are including the HDMI cable. I doubt it.

True. That's just for my setup, though.. most everything in it is top stuff, except my TV.. it's ancient. It's actually older than S-Video, and has only a composite input.

My problem is that I don't like to replace stuff that doesn't need replacing. My ten-year old stereo died, so I bought a 5.1 reciever.. my seven-year old DVD player died, I bought a shiny new one with pro-scan and all that stuffs (future-proofing). But my TV still works just fine (and has a surprisingly good picture), so I'm loathe to buy a new one.. don't like wasting stuff. I'll probably be getting an HDTV sometime this year, though.

Back to the cable thing, my reciever came with a coax cable. Not a very good one, but it had one. I think they figured that it's a 5.1 system, wouldn't do much good if it couldn't do 5.1 out of the box. But I bought a better one and gave the old one to a friend of mine (who before then only had stereo cables going into his reciever... I recently did a "proper" rewiring of his system, and he's been astounded by the results.. hehe).

Most of you guys have great audio equipment but an old or small tv. At this point, my preference is audio over picture. I have a 27 inch JVC CRT, and I guess I lucked out to get one with component video inputs (I didn't know anything about AV when I got this tv).

I think mine is a 27". The picture is kick @$$. I am going to wait for it to die. No HD for me. I look at it like this, if I don't have HD beside my tv, I can't see the difference.

I got a sony wega. Tube TV's have better picture the LCD and plasma. Its just they are small and heavy.

I don't know why people pay big dollars for an HDTV thats like 42 inches (unless space is an issue). I've seen some pretty good DLP projecters that are digital/HD-Ready that can project onto an 100 inch screen (i think the picture quality is pretty good too). I guess if I upgraded my tv, I'd go all out.
