hooking up speakers

Hello,
I have a Samsung Model HW-C700b 7.1 receiver which I plan to use in a 5.1 system. I would like to connect some external speakers to be used in another room. I dont know how to go about this. Can I use the vacant SBL/SBR connection and if I do will all the sound pass through to the other room. Do those connections only send part of the audio signal. If they cant be used can I use the FL and FR terminal to hook 2 speakers on each post, one for the surround sound room and one for the external room ??? Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, Tomats!

I've skimmed through the owners manual for your receiver, and I don't see any way to run speakers for a second room off of the surround back speaker outputs. Those are limited to playing the surround back channels or the front height channels. Some receivers let you configure those outputs for a second room, but I don't see that on your receiver.

I don't recommend connecting two speakers to the same speaker terminal, unless you know what that does and that it will work. When you do that, it drops the electrical impedance (resistance, basically) that the receiver sees, and the current draw will go up. That can damage the internal amplifiers in the receiver.

I recommend getting a speaker switch box instead, something like this (but not necessarily that specific one - it's just an example). I've been away from the forum for a while, but this question comes up from time to time. Others here might have a better suggestion for you, but this should get the conversation started.

You can hook up two sets, depending on two things.
First is the impedance load of the speakers, which would determine how you wire them.
The second is what impedances that receiver can handle.

If the AVR can handle a 4u load, then its ok, assuming the two speakers are 8u.
So wiring them in parallel would give a 4u load.

If the speakers are 4u, then you would have to wire the pair in series, producing an 8u load.

I don't know about ths particular receiver but most offer the option of running an additional set of stereo speakers off of a "Speaker B" terminal on the back of the receiver. These run off of the main amps and generally are all one ever needs for occasional/light use.

The main (5.1) speakers are the "A" speakers.

You might want to check your manual for this.
