Hooking up HDMI connections...

I would just like to get some clarification on some HDMI connections...

I plan on purchasing a Denon 3808 (3 HDMI in's and 1 HDMI out)...

First, I will connect the Cablevision cablebox to the receiver via a HDMI wire...do I need to use an optical cable also or will the HDMI wire be sufficient?

Second, I will connect my Panasonic DVD (upconvert)/VCR combo unit to the receiver wia a HDMI wire...do I need to use an optical cable also or will the HDMI wire be sufficient?

Third, I will be purchasing a PS3 in the near future and I will probably use a HDMI wire from the PS3 to my receiver...do I need to use any other wires?

So, all the three sources will be using up the three HDMI inputs that the Denon 3808 has...I will then take an HDMI wire out from the receiver to the TV...

Is this setup correct? Thanks, in advance, for your help!

If in the future you need to connect another HDMI device, you can get an HDMI switcher (4-position - $43) from monoprice.com and I would recommend monoprice.com for inexpensive HDMI cables too.

You will be so so much happier if you upgrade your cablebox to satellite (either DishNetwork or DirectTV) or Fiber Optics (AT&T Uverse). The regular channels on Satellite look like the HD on cable.

The PS3 has very good support with HDMI; just connect the one HDMI cable.

Jinen14, as others have stated, only HDMI cables are required. Using them not only relieves the clutter of wires, cables and cords but does provide you with optimum audio and video.

Not to start a flame, I must say that my experience with satillite and cable is different. I used to have the Dish Network cabled to an eight year old Pioneer Pro-510HD CRT. Now I have Cox Digital Cable with HD programming to a new LG Plasma 50PC1-DRA HDTV.

Without question, with Cox Cable, every channel is superior in video and audio quality than what it had been via satillite.

I cannot say whether it is because of the differences in the TV's or if the change in quality is due to the type of provider. My gut feeling is that the equipment and the HDMI technology has made the difference.

Good luck with your setup.
