hey all,..love this site...great help here!

i am building 2 sound system's, 1 for my son and myself.
here is what i would like to do...
this is for music and movies(including blue ray),...

budget-at the most...3k$...here is what i am thinking so far...
1-polk 70's for front's
2-polk 60's for rear
3-of course,..a great center channel(maybe the cs1)...
4-emotiva xpa 5 channel power amp....(or a good equivalent)
5-dbx 31 band eq....
6-a awesome sub or even 2(like a bic america or even svsound)
7-the reciever,..i really dont know,..i need help there!

eventually, i will upgrade the speakers to a more high end setup(axiom,svs)\
or something like as good as those...

i would apreciate any and all advice from this site,..as i can tell most of you here know what your talking about,..ty,..

room dimensions are
mine-20x15x20(very high ceilings)
son's-20x20x9

1st suggestion....get the Polk CS2 center for use with the Monitor70's...much better fit and better for the large room.

2nd suggestion...don't get the 5 channel power amp until you have "lived with the system" for a bit. A good a/v receiver will drive the efficient Polk Monitors without much extra help. If you still feel you "need" the power amp after a few months, then by all means get one.

3rd suggestion... get an a/v receiver with 7 channel pre-outs, in case you do feel you need the power amp. Many, many current generation a/v receivers no longer have pre-outs ! :(

4th suggestion... as with the power amp, hold off on the equalizer until you are sure you actually need it, can be added when the "need" is established.

5th suggestion... consider ultimately having 2 powered subwoofers, and consider buying a Hsu Research, Emotiva, Elemental Designs, or some other internet direct subwoofer manufacturer. Start with one, add the other when the budget refills.

As an owner of a Monitor70/CS2 setup, you will find you need to spend a bunch of bucks to get a noticeable improvement in sound quality and dynamics from replacement speakers.

As far as the a/v receiver, take a look at the Pioneer 1121, Yamaha A800 or above, Onkyo NR709 or above, Denon (not sure which upscale model finally adds pre-outs)

Why polks? For 3k why not get an SVS setup now?

is only 1k and will certainly be better than the Polk's IMO.

You could also do Infinity Primus for the fronts. Ascend Acoustics. Heck I think you might even swing a great Aperion set on that budget.

Of course you could also get 2 amazing fronts and worry about surrounds later. 2 Salk SongTowers + Onkyo708 = amazing setup.

an XPA-5 is a waste. Surrounds don't need an Amp in a home. On your budget you'd be better off putting that money in a good sub anyway.

On your budget you can do a lot better than the Polks IMO.

For a receiver grab an Onkyo 708 from accessories4less. Worry about an Amp later.

looks like im in the rght place,..lol

ty for your responses,..quick and to the point!
let me add this concerning my 3k$ budget,.....this will be what i have in
the systems when i'm done,..i do not have 3k$ up front,...i am piecing
these together as i go along...srry for not making that clear...

i have already purchased the polk 60's(saturday off newegg),..for 99$ a piece..
so..i can always use them for rears,..and go with serious fronts and center..

as for the recievers,..man!,..so many to choose from....lol...
i looked at all the ones you both recommended,...they all seem to be capable,
what about the denon 1912?,....would you recommend this one,..it also seems,
to be justly capable...
i don't mind spending up to 750$ for a decent reciever,..

as for the power amp,..yes i can hold off until i see what i will need,..
the eq,..well,..i used to run live sound for bands,.(25 yrs ago,..lol).however,
i am sure i will be using a eq at some point,..(fairly sure),...

ok,..i will continue to consider all things said or advised,..ty so much so far..
