Home Theater Wiring - Please Help!!!

I need some help with wiring my home theater system. I have been told that all of speaker wire needs to be the exact same length to all of my five speakers, regardless of where they are in the room. Does anyone know if this is correct or even makes a difference?

Also, does anyone know if splicing two wires together has any effect on sound quality? I'm trying to wire a pretty large room.

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Question One: The wire length does not need to be same.

Question Two: I am unsure.

Splicing wires

If you make a good quality connection (twist wires and solder) and insulate the wires appropriately there shouldn't be any effect on sound quality.

Just make sure that you are using quality coper wire that is at least 14 gauge for long runs. Lower wire gauge corresponds to thicker wire.

If your speaker require a lot of current or power, I too would suggest running larger diameter wires over long distances.

I used 10 gauge wire all the way around except for the sub.

I suggest spade lugs at the speaker and bannana plugs at the receiver for convenience. Just my personal preference.

Good Luck with your project. Send us pictures when you can.

1.) No, that guy was tring to get you to buy more wire.

2.) I would advise just buying the right length of wire. Splicing works, but its ugly, messy, and sometimes affects signal quality. Runs over 30feet need to be 14gauge minimum.

.....JayTheVikesFan, run unbroken wire to your speakers, don't splice, splicing can pick up interference, and like Sheep pointed out, it looks like crap if visible....Home Depot has a good price on good quality 12 ga wire that's mentioned here often.....I think it's about 20 cents a foot.....Nick, you're my kinda' person......

Westlake also has some good stuff - you can buy 200 feet (uncut!) or more... as much as you need really. They likely get 1,000 foot spools, so you can count on a very long uncut piece of cabling, with a fair price amount.

Now somebody needs to provide the link because the Westlake website is horrendous.
