Greetings all!
I have a finished basement that is just begging for a home theater set up.
Looking for something that will play DVD's, stream movies and music using blutooth surround sound speakers as I don't want to run wires across the floor and walls.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Budget is no more than $1500
I already have a pair of great speakers. Would just like surround.
Thanks

Edit. I already have most of the components, just not a receiver for surround and blutooth.

Wireless surround I think is possible with certain Yamaha, Denon & Marantz avrs via the Music Cast feature on Yamaha, HEOS on D&M units. Running wires isn't that bad IMO, but....

Well, your after thought was a bit late. A good home AV systems needs wires and lots of them. Your AV system should have been part of your build and you should have put conduit in your walls to run wires where you need them as part of your build.

Wireless systems are not recommended.

I think you are going to have to take down some sheetrock to do this properly and neatly. Or else you will have to run wires over carpet etc. and spoil the look of you new basement.

Modern AV systems are a total build system in which the room and design are very much part of the system.

I have been using the total build concept in my systems since 1972.

Your ceiling- is it drywal, or suspended? If it's suspended, installing cabling is much easier.

Personally, I would hard wire the speakers- using Bluetooth is OK for sending music to an AVR, but I have never used it for side/rear/surround speakers. The MusicCast, HEOS speakers will kill your budget but wire is cheap.

If one wall is backed by a mechanical room, you may be able to shine a light to the space above the finished room, to see where you have obstacles & open space. Doing this after finishing isn't great, but it can definitely be done- I have worked in AV for decades and installed systems in all kinds of houses, built in many ways that included old homes which were never built for this.

If you post photos of the room and the area over the ceiling, I and others, can offer more tips.

Buy a BluRay player- it will play anything including BluRay, DVD, CDs and recordable discs.

Bear in mind that wireless speakers still need power cables to power the internal amplifiers, so you either run speaker wire to a passive speaker or a power cable to a powered speaker. It's generally less expensive to run speaker cable than to buy powered surround speakers, so powered surrounds will eat into the budget of your receiver.

I have not read any articles on using MusiCast or HEOS to wirelessly send signals to surround speakers. There are wireless transmitters and receivers, but then you need a receiver with pre-amp outputs (which costs more) and you also need to power the receiver at each speaker, so another power cable to power the receiver at each speaker. You probably see why most people run speaker wire now.

If you don't have access to the walls or ceiling, speaker wires can be run inside small rectangular conduit which can be surface mounted and painted the wall colour. Running the conduit along baseboards and door frames cab blend in better.
