Hello I'm new here, as you can see this is my first post. I have a question that I figured could get answered here. I have a ps3 slim and a pioneer vsx519 receiver with a 5.1 setup all conneceted w/ 1.3 hdmi cables. Can anybody help me out with what the ps3 audio output settings should be on for optimal performance as well as crossover settings should be on the receiver and sub? Thanks!

Oh yea, when I set the ps3 audio output setting to automatic, my receiver is displaying PCM rather than Dolby digital or dts. Is this a good or a bad thing?

Auto is fine on the Slim. When watching BDs, the 519 can't decode the hi-rez True-HD/DTS-MA, therefore the Slim has to do it and send it to the 519 via PCM. For SD DVDs, the Slim could send a Bitstream and let the 519 do the decoding and the indicators would light up. You could try both ways to see which sounds better for DVDs.

For the other settings, need to know which speakers/sub?

They're all sonys, the big bookshelf speakers are the fronts, the smaller ones are the surrounds, with the Sony center channel and 100w powered sub

I'm not familiar with the pioneer vsx519 receiver or your Sony speakers, or how the crossover is set. But if you can set a specific crossover, than a good starting point would be to set it at 80 Hz. Otherwise set all speakers to small and tell the AVR you have a sub. Fine tune with trial and error.

Do I have to set the same crossover on both the receiver and sub or just the receiver?
