There are two things that I would like to accomplish next for my HT;

1. Indirect lighting
2. Sound panels

I was thinking about taking out two birds with one stone. Here's my idea.

The 2x8 joists in the ceiling already have standard fiberglass insulation (quietzone pink) with 1x3 strapping on the bottom side. I was thinking about leaving it there, add/swap white insulation, put LED strip light (something like this 5 Meter 12V RGB LED Strip Light Non Waterproof 150 SMD) around the 'light' area on the inside of the 1x3 strapping and then covering with a translucent white cloth. Then drywalling the rest of the ceiling.
If it works it would provide a neat ambiance to the room. I would use standard pot lights for normal light, the strip light would be for 'easy use' only.

Would I have to use something else for sound absorption? Can I get cloth that will work well for sound and light? Am I crazy?

Any type of translucent white cloth would be fine, LED's put out very minimal heat. As far as what your asking, maybe a rough sketch would give me a better idea of what your trying to accomplish. I've done a substantial amount of ambient lighting before, being in the electrical trade for twelve years I could help you out. ;)

Not the best pic, taken with my phone after sketching on the back of a laminate flooring box at work:/

I'd say that would work, possibly time consuming however, it would look great when finished. I definetly would love to see that:) Also I think your insulation would work good for sound absorbtion, As far as the LED strips now that I see the sketch, your not going to have any heat issues there!! How do you plan on feeding the LED strips? This is a great idea hope it works out for you!! Sorry it took so long to respond.

I am planning to power with this. Not sure what I am going to wire it with yet. I will make a test piece to see if I like it with the single strip light. I am well aware that this is going to be VERY time consuming. Not is a rush, I hope to get started with the test in a couple weeks.
