Home stereo now popping occaisonally, reasons?

I have an Aiwa CX-NMT320 home theatre system, purchased from Best Buy about 10 years ago. The sub was damaged in a move several years ago, but recently I decided to move it from the back bedroom to the living room and hook it up to my new LG flat panel TV.

Occaisonally, during viewing of a TV program, the system will make a pop noise and then continue playing as normal. This happens even at low volume levels. I have lowered the source signal level, changed signal cables, rechecked the speaker connections to the reciever, and it still pops. I can't make it pop, it just does it whenever it wants to.

Bad audio out on TV? 10 year old system finally coming to the end of it's life? Anything I can do to extend the life of the system?

There are glitches that sometimes occur with broadcasters. My guess is, there is nothing you can do about this, though your problem could be something else.

Have you tried watching TV with the audio system off, listening through the speakers? If so, and if it still occurs, you will know that it is not your audio system.

After further testing, TV speakers don't pop, and stereo pops occaisonally when just the FM radio is playing. The more I read and troubleshoot, the more I think my reciever's life is coming to an end.

Any suggestions where I can go to get a decent replacement reciever or another home theatre set? I don't need phenominal quality, this set was only $200 and has lasted me 10 years.

You can power them with just about any receiver probably.

HK sells refuburshed on ebay for a great price with full warranty. It's where I got mine.

How is it hooked up? Do you have digital audio connected somehow from the cable box? The pooping sounds like signal disconnects.

Can you connect a CD player to this setup? If so, play some CDs and see if the popping still happens, when it wants to. If not, it is the digital audio signal from the cable company.
