Wife wants a new printer, we're leaning towards laser, B&W, fairly low usage(1-2 reams of paper per year). Two members of my coffee clutch use Brother, any other recommendations ?

We bought an Epson eco-tank last year and have been completely satisfied with every aspect.

Ours is one of the mid tier for smaller office models, color. We have yet to refill any ink though we print daily. Cost of ownership is very favorable compared to lasers.

I recently went down the same path. I don't print a lot, B&W is fine, and I just didn't want to mess with inkjets anymore. IJs are great when used regularly, but not so much if not used often. After some research I ended up with a HP LaserJet. It's rock solid, has a small footprint, and is always ready to print. For me it was the right choice. YMMV.

Donated my Canon color inkjet to the Vets.

Completely agree about HP Laser printers, have used them for decades. If I need color I'll just go to Kinko's.

We got a MFP 310 back in January for my wife's business work and have had zero problems and she goes through a lot paper, much more than I do on my HP.

Another consideration..........toner replacement cost ? I'm assuming they're comparable across the brands ?

I've had a Brother (HL2070N) for many years. Don't print much these days but it has always been quite reliable....

While they interchangable between specific models, they're not universal.

Non OEM cartridges cost a lot less than an OEM HP and generally have favorable rating. For my HP there are standard and high yield cartridges. The high yields are by far the better deal cost wise. Prining is ~$0.01/sheet.

The number of pages you get out of a laser, toner won't be an issue with your usage and compared to inkjet with all their issues, you'll be fine. I use OEM at a higher cost but have had issues with off brands and updates. That may not matter to you if you don't intend to update.

B&W & Color Printers are a dime a dozen now, HP, Brother, Canon, take your pick, especially if it is just for basic office printing. If you are only printing 2 reams of paper per your, even the starter cartridges will last you a long time.

Back in the day, I used to swear by HP, not anymore. I use a Brother Multifunction (for the 1 time a year I might actually fax, and scan)

mfcl3780cdw is the model I have, but it is overkill.
