Hello,
Just at the beginning stages of my home theater downstairs and I plan on using inwall speakers as space is a bit of an issue. I am on a pretty tight budget but would like to get the best possible sound out of what I can afford.
I am looking at a set of used mordaunt short aw162's and was wondering about building a speaker box in the wall. I wanted to insulated my HT room for sound to isolate it as much as possible, but I assume that I shouldn't put any insulation directly behind the speakers.
1. Can I just close off the stud with a piece 2x4 above and below where the speaker is to be placed?
2. Would covering the 2x4 piece with fiberglass help to "seal" it or is that overkill??
3. What about using a 3/4" drywall on my front wall for a more solid base for the speaker?? (any benefit over 1/2"?)
4. Anything else I can do to get the best quality sound out of the speaker??
The room is about 12'W x 21'L x 6.5'H. Seating position is about 8' from screen.
Thanks very much for the help. I have been very impressed with the knowledge of members here and am looking forward to learning as much as I can.
