Home audio speakers -Central Wiring Need help

Earlier I have told the electrician to run pair of speakers to every room (8 locations). Then they are connected to 14/4 volume control mounted (impedance) in every room. All the 14/4 wires goes to central wiring closet.

Later, I have decided to install one speaker per room instead of 2. Now I mounted single speakers in all rooms execept for 2 locations. So I do not have pairs any more. Now, I have a total of 8 bundles of 14/4 coming to the central closet. Of which only two may have 4 live and the others have only 2 live.

Now I am trying to connect them to my speaker selector which is hooked to the power amp. I am getting no output whatsoever. The speakers are not doing any thing at all. What did I do wrong? Do I need to have the Voulme control installed in all wall locations for this thing to power?

Please help.

Thanks

Mike

I don't think you have given enough information. What kind of amp is it? Power rating? channels? How are you connecting it all? Is the amp capable of driving all of your speakers? Please give a few more details.

Check out this article:

Obviously things are not wired correctly. What type of volume control are you using? I suspect you will need a control like this:

in order to maintain the proper impedance for the amp. Hope this helps. I would try just connecting one pair of speakers to your amp to see if you get any sound. I think you will need a volume control in each room.

Just a question, but how are do you plan to get a mono signal to each room with a stereo reciever? Hopefully you are using a separate amp for all of this and not the "B" side of the amp you use to listen to your mains in stereo. Otherwise you may have to listen to a mono signal on your "A" speakers to get a mono signal out to the "B" speakers, depending on your amp.

Hope this helps.
