I WISH.....MORE LIKE "THE BUG":D

SO YOU THINK I'M HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION ON THE STEREO SET-UP.
AND NOT A BAD TEMPORARY SET-UP ON THE HT SUBS?
You are doing better than me for a two channel rig as far as I can tell, I have one Acoustic Research 8" subwoofer and two very banged up BIC towers in the living room right now being powered by the Teac listed in my signature.

10-4.

And Just A Little Update On The New Receiver..
Huge Diff....huge! I Would Say That The Sound Coming From The Speakers Is At Least 40% Cleaner And Deeper To Boot.
I Was Un-sure At First To To Expect Or Ever What To Look For...but
Right Away It Hit Me In The Face Even At Moderate Listening Levels:d

Big Thanks Again To All Of You Guys For The Re-assurance.
Now I Cant Wait For The Subs!!!!!!!!!!!!
Should Be Awsome When I Can Back A Little Of The Bass Off And Use
The Main Floor Standers To Keep The Volume But Not Have To Worry
About Covering From The Lowest Low To The Cleanest High.

Also...would You Guys Venture To Say That This Receiver Would Run
4 Of The Cv's (a + B All Times And) The 2 Subs From The Pre-outs?

Subs will be no problem, but running two sets of speakers at once is probably going to be a bit much, especially at any levels past lower to low moderate.

REALLY? THATS A HUGE BUMMER..I THOUGHT THAT IS WHAT IT WAS DESIGNED FOR AND WHY IT HAD BOTH CHANNELS ( 4 OUTPUTS )AND ALLOWED THEM TO RUN IN TANDEM? THIS IS HORRABLE NEWS:(

they can run 2 pairs of 8 ohm speakers with high sensitivity.

also, If all you needed was two subwoofer outputs, a wye connector on the output would have done the same job as the L and R output we see at the 3485.

oh, and I think you have your caps lock on.

THIS IS THE BREAKDOWN FOR SAID SPEAKER..
"3-Way Floor Standing Model Frequency Response: 26 Hz - 20 kHz Power Handling: 400 watts Sensitivity: 102 dB Impedance: 8 ohm compatible"

ALL WOULD BE WELL RUNNING 4 OF THESE? OR NO?
HOW REALISTIC ARE THE POWER RATING ON BOTH..THE SPEAKER AND THE RECIEVER?

SPEAKER SAYS 400W / IS THAT CONTINUOS OR PEAK?
RECIEVER CLAIMS / 120W PER CHANNEL...WOULD THERE BE A TRUE 120 OUT
OF ALL 4 LEGS CONTINUOUSLY..WITH A PEAOF?

400 watts would be the max (peak) the speaker could handle and it is likely it could handle even more than that as most speakers are conservatively rated.

If the receiver is rated 120 wpc that is the most any one channel can do. It was most likely rated using FTC guidelines which means it can deliver 120 wpc to each of two channels at the same time. It will not be able to deliver 120 wpc to all channels simultaneously but that is no matter as no real world music or movie soundtrack will ever call for all channels being driven simultaneously. HK likes to tout their 'conservative' all channels driven rating but it is of no consequence as it will never be called upon to deliver equal power to all channels at the same time. [Not even for 'All channel stereo'].

I C...

So In Theory This Particular Receiver
(rated @120w" Conservativly )should Deliver Ample Power To Each Speaker Simultaneously At Any Given Time?
And If Not @ What Point Will I Be Damaging The Speakers?
And How Will I Know

If the speakers can handle 400 watts peak and the RMS rating is lower, say half of that, a 120 wpc receiver cannot do damage to the speakers.

since the spec rating of the 3485 is 150wpc at 4ohms (which is what you get when you connect two pairs of 8 ohm speakers)

each speaker will in theory get 75w ... or something like that

THIS STATEMENT MADE MY BRAIN TWITCH:eek:

SO IF YOU HOOK 4 SPEAKERS UP ALL INTO SEPERATE LEGS IT WILL DROP THEM TO 4 OHMS?

The speakers don't drop to 4 ohms. The load that the receiver sees drops to 4 ohms. 2 - 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel created a 4 ohm load.

MAYBE I'M MISSING SOMETHING..
AND PROBABLY SO CAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT...

BUT I DONT THINK THAT WHAT YOU DISCRIBED IS WHAT I AM DOING.
I/M NOT HARD WIRING 2 SPEAKERS TOGETHER INTO ONE LEG OFF OF THE RECEIVER...

THERE ARE 4 CONNECTIONS ON THE BACK OF THE RECEIVER
( A- RIGHT AND LEFT / B- RIGHT AND LEFT ) TOTALING 4?

I WOULD BE HOOKING I SPEAKER +/- TO EACH +/- ON THE RECEIVER?

yes, speaker A and speaker B connections ... when one 8 ohm pair is connected to speaker A, and another to speaker B ... the HK3485 will see a 4 ohm load.

CRAZY...
ME GONNA HAVE TO DO SOME MORE READING ON THIS STUFF.

I TAKE IT THAT THE MERGING OF THE TWO SIGNALS (AS YOU EXPLAINED) HAPPENS INTERNALY....
BEFORE HITTING THE EXTERIOR TERMINALS?

I Would Think So. Otherwise The Signals Will Have To Fly Through Air To Get To The Other Set Of Terminals.

I WOULD THINK SO. OTHERWISE THE SIGNALS WILLS HAVE TO FLY THROUGH AIR TO GET TO THE OTHER SET OF TERMINALS.

the first line was written using CAPS LOCK
the second line was written by holding down the SHIFT key.

I therefore conclude your SHIFT key is either broken OR your finger is right on top of it.
