Still open to suggestions but I found this player.

Anyone ever have experience with this one?

Also it says it comes with a DVI cable. Is a DVI cable a DVI cable? Is it worth me replacing it for a $100 Monster one?

This is all just if I do happen to get positive feedback.

here's a pretty good value in your price range:

The Samsung units come with both DVI and HDMI cables. The included cables are good enough that I regret dishing out extra money for a Belkin PureAV HDMI cable. :)

That HK is a great player, just doesn't have some of the frills of the others. If you're not worried about having the most feature laiden player and just want good performance (audio and video), go for it.

Oppo Digital DVD Player

I've had my OPDV917H for two weeks and will agree that its video performance is second only to the $3k+ Denon 5910. It was because of the benchmark score that I decided to get the $199 player over the difficult-to-find in stock $299 Panasonic DVD-S97. Since high definition DVD players are on the horizon, I stopped looking at the Denon 3910 or waiting for the Yamaha DVD-S2500 and decided to find a budget DVD player with similar specs to go with my Panasonic TH-50PHD7UY.

See link for all DVD player benchmarks:

If your TV has a digital input (DVI or HDMI), I would highly recommend this player. The supplied 5' DVI cable is sufficient - no need to buy a name brand one. If the 5' cable is not long enough, you can get DVI or HDMI cables at monoprice.com. I got my 10' DVI cable from them for $6.95 and 10' HDMI cable for $9.17.

BTW, I haven't tried DVD-A yet on this player although it does have the 5.1 channel capbility while many others at this price range provide only two channels.

I have the panasonic S97 with the updated firmware and it's picture quality is amazing. The Denon 3910 that I demoed for a week had slightly better pic quality but just could not pay $1200 for the slight advantage in pic quality when I was not planning on using the 3910 DAC's. I got mine for $280ish from Onecall.com
