I have a Harman Kardon AVR-125 hooked up to HK surround. The power for the receiver shuts off with an audible click after a while and the green "aura" light emanating from the receiver turns to a red/orange color. My questions are:
1) Would this be as simple as a bad/faulty switch?
2) If so, could I buy a replacement switch?
3) Would it be worth it to buy the switch and/or have it repaired; or,
4) Should I just buy a new receiver?

Thank you for your help/replies,
Neal

The 125 was an entry-level AVR..
Have you checked for speaker wire shorts @ the back of the AVR and loudspeaker, any little shorted wire strand can cause it to shut down.. A qwik way to test is to disconnect all loudspeaker wires from the AVR, now power it up..

What happens..

1. Light stays Green, then things should be OK for the AVR indicates an external wire short.
2. Light stays Red, the problem is inside the AVR. Time for a new AVR as repair costs will exceed its value.

Just my $0.02... ;)

I would follow the above good advice from M-Code, but can verify that the "click" you're hearing and change of "aura" color are normal. My previous H/K receiver did the same thing when it was powered down, although mine only shut off on command...

It won't be the switch. Follow the advice to see if the receiver shuts down with no speakers connected. If you are lucky this is a short in a speaker connection amp or speaker end. The protection is cutting in, either because of an external short or because that unit has an internal fault and needs to be recycled.
