Hissing in surround soundspeakers

Hello. I need some advice and pointers here.

I have this original surround sound system from RCA. It has two front speakers, two read speakers and a sub. The rear speakers were really weak and I replaced them with some bookshelf sony speakers. Now, the sound is much better but I hear a hissing in the background. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this? FYI...it is through a receiver and speaker wire.

Thank you very much.

Maybe you are picking some interference from a power cord your speaker is laying on.

It's the receiver. The old speakers had a subdued high end which minimized the hiss generated by the receiver. The new speakers have a more pronounced high end which emphasises the hiss generated by the receiver.

I agree with mark.

May be a higher sensitivity speaker. Higher sensitivity speakers will amplify the noise floor because they take less power to drive, so they tend to amplify 'hiss' more.

Thanks guys. Is there anything I can do to get rid of the hiss? I definitely like the sound better but that hiss has got to go.

No. The only thing that will help is a new receiver. You can't change the signal to noise ratio of an amp. As has been explained the poor speakers were covering for poor electronics.

So to solve the problem you need a green poultice.
