High Definition Video Delay/Lip Synch

Most notably in the use of satellite TV such as DirecTV and DISH, it is common that video content lags behind the audio content. To correct this, an audio delay feature is included with many A/V receivers. I currently own a Yamaha RX-V659 which delays the audio to a maximum of 160ms.
Somethimes, 160ms is not enough. Worse, each program or movie can call for a different amount of audio delay to match audio to video.

The new Yamaha RX-V1800 has a feature called "lip synch". The V-1800 has a maximum audio delay of 240ms, and as I understand it the lip-synch feature will match the audio to video automatically. I can assume it may not be spot on perfect, but close enough is an improvement from constantly having to do this manually.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has used this feature to let me know if it works as intended. Thanks.

Not sure but have you checked the satellite box for a delay capability?
Have you contacted the sat company why they have so much delays and varies between channels? They at least have the necessary gear to equalize their channels and have no delays.

I use HD DTV and have never encountered a lip sync issue; it may be your box.

I find that it works well, but I also have it set to a manual delay of 53 milliseconds and found that to work best for me. It is a very nice receiver indeed, sound and vision magazine just did a review on it in their latest issue.
Thanks for the replies so far. the quote above is from a V1800 owner from another thread..
I guess I should add some background here. I have many friends who have DirecTV and some who use cable in other parts of the country. All have high end gear. The audio/video synch problem is the main complaint from all users who primarily watch movies.
Yes, DirecTV and other service providers should fix the problem. They are very aware of it, and don't seem to get enough pressure to do something about it. Also keep in mind that some customers don't notice it. It's there, I have 2 different boxes, both with the same problem and it's not the box.
Thanks again.
