Hello-
I am considering a purchase of a High Def DVD player. Right now, the choices are the Samsung HD850 or the LG LDA511. Does anyone have any experience with High Def DVD players? If so, what can you suggest? I have a Sony Wega Plasma TV and it will require the DVI cable, not the HDMI.

Thanks

Just to help your education - instead of saying "Hi-Def" you want to say "HDMI-enabled" :)

As for HDMI-enabled DVD players, the connection doesn't account for its ability to deinterlace or provide noise reduction, etc... As we review more HDMI-enabled DVDs we'll put up a comparative chart that shows the measured quality for all inputs.

.....Pokefan, I have a Samsung DVD HD931....I like it a lot, and I mean, a lot....it INSTANTLY turned a 350 dollar Sony DVD player into a boat anchor in both the audio and video arenas....don't know a thing about the LG player....and welcome to Audioholics.com.....

Do you mean up-scaling DVD player (up-scales DVD 480P to 720P or 1080i)? The Samsung 850 and the Denon 1910,2910 do this. The Denon's have DVI outputs. Not sure about the Samsung. The Samsung displays seem to have only HDMI inputs but there are HDMI to DVI cables. You just loose the audio portion of the HDMI when going from HDMI output on your player to the DVI input on your plasma. Hopefully, you will be routing the audio to a receiver, not you plasma.
