Hello everyone. After my only six year old Denon 2802 quit working I started a search to find out if the problem was common and whether or not it is fixable. I am thinking now it is not fixable. So will be reading the posts here to decide what to purchase next.

The dead receiver was working fine then when I was switching inputs the digital light started to flash and the sound did not kick in. I have reset the microprocessor and played around with other inputs. Basically if I cross my fingers just right I get sound in Stereo or Direct. However if I change the channel on the satellite receiver the sound stops again.

So now the decision is do I trust Denon and purchase a new one or is this problem in other Denon receivers as well.

I don't understand the electronics and some of the discussion here is quite technical. Speaker wise we have front, left and right towers, sides, back and two subs. All are Axiom. We listen to music some but mostly enjoy surround sound for tv watching.

We are borrowing a receiver to get us by so not in a huge hurry to make our decision.

Welcome to Audioholics.:)

I had a Denon from the 2000 series (can't recall the model #) that had some quirks with digital signals, but other than that it worked great. I haven't heard about any problem similar to mine or yours concerning Denon so I wouldn't be to concerned about Denon's reliability. It sounds like the logic processor could have a problem. Damage could have been incurred by some outside element like a power surge (which could happen and you wouldn't ever know the surge occured), so the Denon may not necessarily be to blame. Never the less I would invest in a decent surge supressor if you don't have one already.:)

What would your budget be for a new receiver?

Denon still makes good stuff along with Onkyo, Yamaha, H/K, and some others. You might even be able to get into separates depending on how much you want to spend.

Welcome to the forum, Lkn4Xadv!

These guys are right. Denon is a good brand, as are several others. There are quite a few good receivers out there these days that can be had for not too much money.

Thanks...

Re surge protection - it was plugged into a quality supressor so would be surprised if that was it.

Anyway went up on Best Buy today and looking at purchasing a Denon AVR 787 for $400 Cdn. Steps us up from 75 to 85 watts. Has enough inputs and seemed a steal compared to the $1,300 I paid for the 2802.

Anyone have one of these and can comment?
