I'm a perfect example of that on a much smaller scale. I should probably spend about a $1k on treatments that would likely benefit my system. But I'm not sure I'd like that as much as a new bd player or HTPC first.
I work kind of the opposite... I want all my stuff as stealth as possible. An equipment rack in the basement, a motorized recessed screen. Not much I can do with the 60" plasma right now, but it isn't as in your face as some stuff... The wife does put up with some floor standing speakers.
If I were to do a theater I think I would go big with DIY sound paneling and hide all the speakers if I could and likely use a projection room for the projector. Just walk into a fairly unobtrusive room and then let it blow people away.
