it appears that all the new pioneers/elites have new amps. i thought the 1015 was going to be better but the new 1016 weighs in at over 35 lbs!!! even though the 1015 looks better, i might just have to exchange it for the 1016. i can't find any reasons other that the amps & faceplate to keep the 1015.

if anyone has any knowledge about which amp design is better or has actually listened to a 1016, please post info. i'm assuming the new amp design is better since the elites have them as well...there's some pretty stiff competition out there now. i'm not sure when best buy will have them, but i can't wait any longer...tough decision...

Why? What's wrong with your 1015?

there's nothing wrong with it. it's just that the 1016 has more features for about the same price & i can still return the 1015 to get it, that's why i wanted to know if the 1016 is better built.

If you are still within the return period, I would just for the features. Is it going to be much better in terms of amplification or sound? Probably not, especially since you are using an external amp.

that what i was thinking. granted i don't have my 50+" DLP 1080p hdtv yet either but, at least i'd get hdmi with the 1016 if i choose to buy that.

i won't be using an external power amp for very long. i'm only using it because the 1015 doesn't accept my dual-banana plugs. i have to buy some more of the single plugs to hook up all of my speakers to the 1015. from what i've read, the 1015 probably has more power than my 5800, although it probably doesn't sounds as good. i haven't been able to compare them yet.

If you can stick with the amp, I would, at least for the main pair. Even if it puts out the same amount of power, it will still allow the receiver to work less. H/K amps are very solid, so I'd actually expect it to perform better during transient peaks (most external amps are better than the typical receiver in this regard).

i would like to use the amp, but i need it for my older second system consisting of a hk avr25mkII & a hk adp303 dolby digital processor. using the 5800, i'm able to get dolby digital out of this combination & it still sounds awesome nearly ten years later. i just want the best $500 receiver for my main system. after reading everything, it appeared that the 1015 was the best deal anyway.

I'd still return it, so you at least have the latest features :)

well i returned the 1015...then i auditioned a denon 2807. i will be buying a new hdtv soon & have decided to move up to the denon or a yamaha 2600...instead of the pioneer...

How do you like the Denon 2807 to the 1015tx? I'm looking at the receiver now. It seems to have everything I need. Plus, it looks beautiful.

Good choice. At the price point, I was actually going to suggest the Yammie and I'm sure that Denon will be good too.

i don't know which one to get. i like yamaha better than denon but from what i've read, the denon is better for the hdmi/1080p stuff. it's all confusing since i don't know who to believe. when i buy a new hdtv, i want it to look good...so whatever receiver is going to make that happen, i'll probably buy. both of those receivers sound good from what i've heard. the 1015 doesn't sound as good in 2-channel, but can probably keep up in all other areas. i didn't get to do an A/B comparison between the 1015 & 2807. the 2807 just has more of what i need for a new tv. however, i still haven't ruled out the 1016 when it comes out. i might just buy that & spend the extra money on speakers/subwoofer...
