I personally have had no issues with the Sonos app. For me it was not an issue of the energy of the main zone being on....it was that my receiver and associated speakers are upstairs in the theater room. I wanted music downstairs in living room. So I needed to purchase a speaker regardless since there was not one in the living room.

I'm happy with my setup...glad you are happy with yours. Cheers
