My buddy got a Samsung DVD-HD950 today, and we started watching Doom when I noticed that everything was WAY dark. So being the nut that I am I busted out the ol set up disk and adjusted the TV. Well then we were checking some demos and it still looked like crap very dark and no detail. So since I had my Integra DPS 5.5 there we hooked it up and watched the same demos to rule out the TV and they looked amazing (I love my DVD player) So after that we tried to hook up HDMI to the TV and now everything is pinkish. Do you guys think he just got a bum player or what. He bought it cause it had good reviews even on this site so I assume its not normally a bad player. Any help is greatly apreciated.

P.S. We started with it hooked up with Blue Jeans Cable Componet. Its going to a 32" View Sonic TV but the TV is good and so is the HDMI input cause he normally has his Media Center hooked up HDMI

Did you check the video setup on that Samsung? Some DVD players can be adjusted themselves almost like a TV can. Check the book and see if it can be without adjusting the TV setup.
Did you use the same cables with your player and it was fine? Then the cables are also eliminated as being faulty.

Yes we tried the DVD set up and the cables were the same. We did find a way to crack it so it plays at 1080i through componet. Now it looks fine through componet but still pinkish with HDMI.

The 950 has a "A" and "B" set-up for HDMI. You might have to pick whichever you're not using. If you've been as thorough as it looks, you probably already tried this.

You might also consider that having 1080i on component will leave your HDMI slot open for an X-box 3.47562047 or other new toy further down the road. :)

Yes we did try the A B thing but thank you for the idea. As for the HDMI slot he actually uses it for his HTPC but he kinda wants to know that it works, ya know. Hes thinkin of getting a reciever soon and if he does hell get one with HDMI switching so then he would want the DVD player hooked up HDMI.
