Hi

I just put in an order for a pair of X-MTMs from av123. I was wondering are there other tower speakers in that price range that have comparable or better performance / sound quality.

I havent heard them before and was going on reviews I read. Almost every everyone seems to be wowed by the build quality on these speakers. But I noticed some people complaining abt the bass being muddy. Hence I thought I would check in here to see what the experts thought.

Thanks.

Well the audioholics review actually said the bass was muddy so there has to be some truth in this. As for other speakers in the same price range only one I can think of would be the Paradigm Monitor 7.

Twist a sock up and put it into the port.

Even if you didn't know it was muddy bass you would still feel that there is something wrong with the sound. Just because you say you are a novice doesn't mean you are deaf. Because if that was the case then you would be buying Bose. :D

:D I was only hoping. I see what you mean and that is not very encouraging. I didnt want to be in a situation where I get them, dont like em, ship it back. And end up with a 200$ shipping fee which I could have actually put into my speakers.

I will look into those paradigm monitors as well.

If your going to run a sub in your system I would look at the cheaper SLS towers and wait for the "Encore" tweeter/crossover upgrade to become available.

That's the route I plan on going.

I do plan on getting a sub in the immediate future. I thought of building with a pair of towers , add a sub n a center speaker. And lastly add a pair of surrounds. I am just having a hard time deciding on a pair of towers. I thought I would settle for MTMs now having second thoughts of prob getting the SLS like you said.

I read the Audioholics review again today just before I made my purchase and I'm glad I did. Made my decision between the SLS and the MTM much easier.

Why don't you just listen to some speakers? If you are going to stick with the ID model, you should try something from Aperion and Ascend (the 340SE). There is no risk with Aperion and AV123 since they will pay the shipping back. I own Ascend and can vouch for their quality. I have not heard the others, but both companies are known for their customer service and people who own their speakers are enthusisastic about them.

Listening and searching can really be fun too.
