No CableCard on this display, you must have a box for the full HD lineup.
I don't believe ESPN would be free automatically, but if you get NBC over the air in your area, then NBC-HD should be available if your cable company delievers it. ESPN is typically part of 'premium' cable services and not free, nor required to be free for standard HD cable delivery.
