Hi folks,

So I wanted to list my system and get some feedback on it. It sounds good but just think the system as a whole should sound better? What should I replace what are the weaknesses etc. Thank You

2 Front towers are 2 JBL S310's
2 Rears are the Pioneer Andrew Jones SPFS52's
Center Channel is a POLK CS10
Sub is a MTX SW12
And the Receiver is a Yamaha v367

Sorry cant post links to all this stuff yet.

First thing is, you generally do not want to mix different types of speakers in the front stage, ie having a different center than the front left and right. In this case, the proper center for those JBL's is the S Center. I don't know much about the MTX subwoofer, but I doubt it digs very deep, and if you like modern action movies, your system may benefit from something that provides very deep bass.

Okay I will look to sell the Polk and get that JBL Center. Or if these S310's arent very good ill keep the Polk center and get some new Floor standing polks instead. Also the 2 Andrew Jones pioneers are those okay to use as rears?

You most definitely want the from three to match, generally from the same manufacturer/line.

The rears are less critical than the front three since they rarely contributr too much to the overall soundscape. Those Pioneers will be fine.

Also, get a better subwoofer. The better the sub, the more you will be satisfied with your system. Try one from some of the main ID types: Hsu, SVS, etc... Lurk the subwoofer forum here for some clues as to what to look for.

Thanks for the reply, Okay from what i hear the BiC F12 is a good sub for the money. If thats the case ill look to purchase that one unless there is something better in same price range.

For $200, the F12 is a a great buy. I have one alnd love it (for the $$) but if I could wrangle it, I'd be looking at those I mentioned earlier.

Since you already have the Pioneer FS52 for side surrounds and they are very good, keep a lookout for this package to come back in stock. You get two more FS52 to use as main L, R and matching Center, the C22. If you can properly place (minimum 5 ft. behind) the included BK22 for a 7.1 setup, they can be used for rear surrounds or you can resell them to recover budget. Alternately, you can get two FS52 and C22, swap out the JBL and Polk and call it a day. Newegg has the FS52 open box for $105 shipped.

A completely different approach would be to get the only C22 and move the FS52 for main L, R and the JBLs to side surrounds. This opens up the budget for a subwoofer.

The JBL S series are nice and I would keep them up front - I will take them over Pioneer,
and for sure over the Polk.

I would look for the JBL center speaker - and use the Pioneer as surrounds. The JBL center
will be on a higher level over the Polk.

You can find the JBL S center on Ebay, and it is a 3-way center channel - and the prices are
good for that series.

I would also upgrade the sub.

Okay So im going to keep the S312's and get rid of the Polk Center channel for the S series JBL that matches the fronts. Now for the sub I have uploaded a pic of the size of my basement and was wondering if the NGX BAS 500 or 2 Dayton 1200's would be better for the room layout. Open to other suggestions also. Thanks for all your help.

Trying to Delete the other posts to clean this thread up. Sorry!. I ended up ordering the 2 Dayton Sub 1200's over the 1 NGX Bas 500. I figured for 240 shipped for both 12's I couldnt get hurt. Hope i made the right choice for this room layout and size.

Another question for you guys is about my main speakers the JBL S312's
JBL S312 Studio Series speakers at Crutchfield.com

At what point do you say "Hey these are old and maybe i should look for something newer"? Are these still good speakers to own 12 years later or should I look to get newer stuff.?
As long as they sound good - keep them - they are not bad. They are still better than a lot of speakers out there.

I would not upgrade them, till you save enough money to also upgrade the Dayton subs at the same time.
