Hi Audioholics,
been following everyone's posts on speakers and systems for more than a month now but just got the brains to post my question.. The Mrs has approved a huge (huge for me :D) budget for a HTS of 1.5 to 2k total. That includes either a 5.1 or 7.1 speaker set and a receiver. Television wise, I have a 50" Samsung RPTV HL-S5087W and a spanking new Panasonic DMP-BDT110 and an Xbox 360 and apple TV2.

I started out with the Energy Take Classic 5.1 system with the Pioneer VSX-1021-K 7.1 or Onkyo TX-NR609 7.2 but since this is a once in a decade kind of thing, I want to push the envelope a bit on the budget...

I started looking into the Emptek's Impression Series 7.1 Package 1 or the Axiom's package of VP150 CENTERS, M3 fronts and rears and BIC Acoustech PL-200 Subwoofer with one of the above receivers or yamaha rx Av700.

I am attaching a link of my basement in hopes someone can suggest a viable system without having me go insane...

The basement is a a bit odd sized... The length is 22 feet. The room has a width of 14 feet at its width and then it narrows down to 12 feet at the place where the telly is kept. The height of the basement is 7 feet so the size is roughly 2100 cubic feet... please help....

I used to recommend Infinity P163 bookshelfs then they were on sale for $85, but at 140/ea they are not longer best value...

That said within your budget is this great system:
2x Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 SE pair (4x speaker)
1x Ascend Acoustics CBM-170 SE Center
$688.00

1x Rythmic FV12 sub - $500+$66

this avr (only If you must have 3D support - look for 6005 model)
Marantz SR6004 110w X 7ch Home Theater Surround Receiver | Accessories4less

Thank you for your response, guys.. erally appreciate it. I have heard a lot of good things about the P162s from Audioholics and other home theater sites... The only thing which is kind of scary for me is the weight... Well weight and greed. I was I know its not a good thing to be greedy but since this system for a long time upgrade, I looked at energy's c70s with the cc 10's which i think is a gross overkill for the area... I am leaning towards the P162s but have no place to actually have a listen at them. The C70s and cc10s I have heard and one of friends has an Impression Series 7.1 Package 2 which is okay (nice but okay due to budget) considering I am probably going to get a 400 receiver and a new BR player...

You won't find any other speakers out there for $85 (P162) that have been reviewed by Soundstage & measured well @ NRC.:D

Speaking of BD player, I have the Panasonic 110 BD player (paid ~$100 on Amazon). It plays BD nicely, and it is one of the very few than can play 5.1 Dolby Digital Plus + 1080p on Netflix streaming. It can also desplay subtitles on Netflix, which many other BD players cannot. It can also play Amazon Prime streaming, among other streaming services.

If you are looking for a tower. You might check out the Energy CF-30s off Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Energy-CF-30-Floorstanding-Tower-Speaker/dp/B001SAJ1VA/ref=pd_cp_e_1

I recently did a listen at Starpower in North Dallas and was thoroughly impressed given the price. I gave my friend the green light to buy them.

They have a large cross section in the port, decent balance, and good aesthetics. They were the best speakers for the room they had them set up in.

I would not get a 3-way outside of the P362s in the sub 800 price range. Because I have no faith in the designs.

Insanity

So i should have probably have listened to the adt guy and gotten the p162s.. But no too much time and thats when I started going insane...

Lets get the c30s and pair them with p162s to make a 7.1 or better yet get all p162s and and we will have a infiniity party...

Sub woofer: undecided between bic and Rhytmik, pa120

Atleast i think i have narrowed down the receiver to either the marantz one or onkyo 708...l

I will probably just toss a coin and decide... ( not really just frustrated about too many great choices even in the budget category)

Any cure for the malady except for jack Daniels off course??
