I’ve been reading this website and the forums trying to make sense of all the speaker settings, room modes, do I set the speakers large or small?, crossover frequency, +/- 3db… I’m overwhelmed by the amount of information that I’ve found on this site, kudos to everybody on these forums!. However, after all the reading I’m a lot more confused and particularly with my system. I have a Yamaha HTR-5450, JVC DVD (DTS & DD Built in) and a set of Bose Accoustimass 10 (I know, I know about Bose, but at that time I did not know any better and I had to comply with the WAF factor…. Anyway I use to have this same set on a small room on my apartment, it wasn’t so bad, but now that I’ve moved to a house, I had to put the equipment in the living rooms and frankly it sounds horrible!!. The area is very open (too much! 20x16 w. vaulted ceilings) and it has laminated floor. I’ve attached a jpg image with a sketch of the layout so I can better explain my self. As you can see I’m a lot closer to the rears than to the mains so I started reading about delays, individual volumes and here’s what’s puzzling me:
1) On the article Bass Management for Sub/Sattellite Integrated Systems is is mentioned to to set the speakers to LARGE and set the subwoofer to No.
2) The Bose manual says to set the speaker as follows:
All speakers to LARGE
LFE set to ON
Cross over freq. 200hz
3) However, the receiver’s manual, it is not possible to change the crossover frequency and if I understood correctly it is set to something like 90hz. By default the speakers are set to Large but for the subwoofer the only settings available are:
SWFR.- Select this if you have a subwoofer
MAIN.- LFE signals are directed to the main speakers
BOTH.- To mix signals between main and LFE
Should I set the subwoofer as SWFR so it can have the same effect to what is mentioned on the aforementioned article?
Any comment on the crossover on my receiver? Am I really stuck with 90hz
Any other comment/suggestion even critics are welcomed, unfortunately upgrade system is not an option for now
….
Thanks in advance
