Help with Speaker Placement

I have a new Denon AVR-2808CI and 5 Klipsch speakers going into a wall bookshelf. Klipsch are RC52 center, RW10d sub, RB61 bookshelf, RS62 surround. I cannot put speakers anywhere except in the bookshelf. It is 11' - 6" wide. I am thinking about the sub where it is in the picture below the TV. The RB61s in the corners up at the top. The top left corner has one placed tentatively. Top right corner for the other one. The RS62s in lower left and right at floor level. Components below TV on a new shelf not yet installed.

Are all speakers speaking or are the surrounds only firing occasionally? Help me with a better idea.

I am by no means an expert, however, I do not think that the sub would sound best when placed in the center of the room. Perhaps consider relocating it to either to the left or right corner of the room, however, experimentation is the key. Also, hope this helps:

I'm not sure I understood your statement correctly, however, if your only option is to put all the speakres up front in that bookcase, the surrounds will not work as 'surround' speakers as they are not 'surrounding' the listening area. A 2.1 setup may work better here, IMHO. Someone with far more experience will correct me if I am in the wrong here. :D

boboi is correct, the surrounds are not going to work as surrounds if you have them in the front of the room. They are meant to be placed beside/behind the listener to allow sounds to come from the back of the room. If they are in the front bottom corners, then for example; when a plain comes over your head it will sound like it's moving up the wall instead of from the back to the front.

As for the sub, that's a little different for every room. I used to have mine in the corner and now it sits about 1/3 into the room next to the TV and sounds worlds better. Properly setting up a new system is half the fun of getting it.

Can you get us a picture of the rest of the room to see if there is anywhere else to put the surround speakers?

Thanks for the advice. I guess that means I will have to treat the surrounds as just more speakers to avoid the "wall climbing". I did not consider what surrounds did with isolation of sound "surrounding" to give that effect.

The room is terrible for audio. It is 14' across the bookshelf wall and 30' deep. It is a living room, dining room and kitchen - all one big room. As you can see in the picture the right wall is rock with 2 "doorway" openings to the hallway. The vaulted ceiling is 9' at the left and 13' at the right. Because it is a flat roof, there is no way to run wires through a non-existant attic to get speakers out in the room.

Copy and paste the following URL into your browser to see a picture of the bookshelf and living room. It is all messed up due to unloading the bookshelf to try to figure out where everything will go.

Thank you very much for your willingness to help me.

As far as that picture shows, you could put one of the surrounds on the wall to the left. Now for the right surround, is that whole wall stone or are there some areas around the doorways that you could hang the speaker on? You could possibly make up a mount that would hang from the ceiling also if you were so inclined.

Jerry, you mentioned you just bought the 2808CI; you may want to check out the included manual (usually near the end). Denon provides a pretty decent tutorial from a visual standpoint different surround sound setups from 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1; they also show different configurations depending on your general listening tastes and how it compares to the way actual movie theaters are set up.
Also, here at Audioholics you'll find a thorough article on this subject here:
