Help with sound proofing, not for a home stereo system per-say!

Hey, um, so, I just registered here, and to tell the truth, I am not into audio and video and such. Well I am a little, but that isn't why I am posting. And this is probably in the wrong

I am an avid video gamer, what I do? Xbox 360. Now without getting into all of the details to the system, it is loud.

My 360 is not stock, I have modified it in 100 different ways. But I don't want to get too into that. I just want some advice on sound proofing/dampening.

OK, the DVD drive of the system, (I have a non stock one by the way and all of this crazy stuff going on) is the loudest thing I would have to say.

I have gone ahead, and used just this thin foam and put it inside the DVD drive in the most places I could. This is inside the DVD drive. It helps a little. Then I put the DVD drive in an 5.25" external enclosure. This helps a little, but it is still kind of loud. All of this had cheap thin foam where it can fit.

And as for the console itself, well PC fans are inside of it. I am not going to run down the list of all of them and the position and so on but these are my main 2 concerns.

2 of them are in teh middle of the console, closest away from any opening where sound could "leak" or whatever out. But 2 are in teh back of the console, all that seperates them from the air in my room...is..nothing...no material or fan grill is infront of them, they are just basically hanging out the back of the console.

Now I am thinking 2 things. Reduce vibration and reduce sound waves for both things. I was thinking something like Dynamat, but it is quite expensive. And I want to do this as cheap and DIY as possible.

I looked in my basement and found some black "Rubberized Undercoat" for I guess cars? I just did a piece of scrap metal, and it looks decent. I would say...maybe O man I don't have a ruler in front of me, but a...maybe 5 pieces of paper thick rubber coating. And this was just one coat, I could cake this stuff on until I died probably.

Would this help with vibrations and sound proofing? I am thinking just spray it where I can, (basically the whole inside of my Xbox's case and the inside of my DVD drive and the enclosure where I can)

Or should I get some actual sound proofing foam, material, aerosol spray, or something else? I mean, I really have never soundproofed anything, and don't know where to start...

So...kind of like the ultimate n00b, asking for help, but remember, space is limited, I can't have inch thick foam everywhere...that is why I am thinking this rubberized spray might be best, but there are some gaps in places that I do have some free space to work with.

This may be overly simplistic; what if you wore a set of headphones?

what if you built some sort of box to keep it in, if you built something with baffles and something like rockwool insulation on every panel im sure you could make it dead silent while still keeping airflow much like silent ac systems.

Well, I have to listen to the game audio and when I use the headset to talk to people on Xbox live, so I would have to have one in one ear and one in the other, too much hassle, and I have speakers and like them better.

And my Xbox is going to be a "work of art", at least it will look cool, I don't want it in a box.
