We recently had a severe storm in our area and we experienced several electronics were shorted out. Consequently, we need to replace them and have not kept up with recent features. We have our surround sound in our family room as we are not true audio buffs. We also have speakers in our formal living room, play room, master bedroom and outside by pool for background music. I like the multi-zone features on the new receivers now and we have a old Luxman receiver serving as our second amp currently.

We have Paradigm ceiling speakers (4) in our family room, Paradigm center channel above the Sony Wegatron TV, and a Paradigm subwoofer along the back seating of the room due to the cable location. We had a Yahama RXV-995 Receiver and a Yahama 5 Disc DVD Player which shorted out. I checked the internal fuses and they are good so I am assuming they are shorted internally and will cost more to repair than to replace or upgrade.

I have researched several receivers and read the forums, but not sure which system to select. I like the Yahama sound, but dislike the remote for all components, and have read many like the new Denon 3805 or the Yahama 2500. Are these best suited for our needs or too much equipment? Any assistance and direction would be greatly appreciated as a newbie in the A/V arena again from 5 years ago for our family room surround sound system.

This should probably go in the Amps, Pre-Pros & Receivers forum.
For whats it's worth I have a Yamaha 2500 (just got it a couple weeks ago) and so far I'm very pleased. If you have a need for HDMI you may want to look at the 2600 and 3806

A killer combonation would be the Yamaha RX-V2600 and the DVD-C950

And you will have the great Yamaha quality and the fact that your previous equipment is Yamaha means you are familiar to their their sound.

Not because I own Denon, but the 3910 and the 3805 would be the best combo due to the DenonLink.

This provides a digital link for DVD Audio and SACD with bass management.

Not something found with any other manufacturers at this price.

Heres a link to help pick a DVD player if the 3910\3805 is out of your budget.

Hope this helps.
