Help with samsung home theater

I bought a Samsung HLP5685WX DLP TV with the Samsung HTDS1000TH home theater last year. Worked great until last December. The DVD player started flashing "protection" and then shut down. Isolated problem to the DIN connection to sub woofer. If I unplugged it, unit did not shut down. Samsung tier 2 support said problem has to be with DVD player. Sent unit in for service, was sent back with "no problem found". Called Samsung support again, they finally sent new sub woofer which resolved that problem. Now when I play a movie DVD, I do not get any audio on the TV speakers (sometimes I do not want to use the home theater speakers). If I play a music DVD (Eagles farewell tour, great DVD) I get great audio. Samsung tier 2 says I cannot use the TV speakers. Explained to them that I was able to get audio prior to the problems with the sub woofer. They say I am wrong. I have gone thru the manual over and over. Does anyone have a similiar setup or think what Samsung support says is true? The connection between the TV and home theater is HDMI. Thanks

I have learned the value of researching any product you are going to buy, but more importantly, what it means exactly. My Samsung HS1000 home theater DVD player only outputs thru HDMI. My Samsung 5685 TV does not have a dolby decoder, therefore, you have to use the home theater speakers unless the DVD audio has the option for PCM output or the DVD was manufactured iusing PCM (not likely). When I checked the music DVD that was playing thru my 5685 speakers, there was an audio setting for either 5.1 dolby or PCM. When I changed it to dolby, I lost the audio.
Many thanks to Crown Audio in Lake Mary, FL for this information.
