Hi guys, I just moved to my new house and I am looking for a new Home Theater (5.1) for my family room (16' x 18.5'). This room is open to the kitchen (9' x 18.5') this is located behind with lower elevation. I am not very knowledges in this area so I would like to ask your help with my new speakers and receiver.

My budget for the speakers and subwoofer is below 1300 $. I have been shopping around and these are my preliminary set selections:

INFINITY (My wife's preference beacuse of the size)
Infinity - Home Audio

MARTIN LOGAN
Newegg.com - MartinLogan MLT-2 5.1CH Premium Home Theater Speaker System Black System
Four MLT-2 satellites
One MLT-2 center
One high-performance subwoofer: 10-inch driver, 360 watts peak / 120 watts RMS

POLK
Four Polk Audio RTI A1 Bookshelf Speakers
Polk Audio - RTi A Series Loudspeakers
One Polk Audio RTI A1 Bookshelf Speakers
Polk Audio - RTi A Series Loudspeakers
Still looking for a Subwoofer that can be combined with this set

What do you think about these options? Which one would you choose? Do you have any different set that I should consider instead of the mentioned above?

Sadly, those selections while high in WAF (wife approval factor) leave a lot to be desired on the sound quality and the subwoofers will be woefully inadequate.

Here is an option which will yield much better results,
Enthusiast 2 with Satin Black VTF-2 MK3

If you can slightly stretch the budget, this will blow anything else out of the water,
SBS-02 5.0 surround set for $780 (one pair of SBS can be upgraded to the SSS-02 Surround speaker) along with the PB-12 NSD for $770 (5% off the sub if bought as package).

I would get 5 infinity p363 bookshelf for $85 each + 2 infinity ps212 subwoofer for $280 each. Total shipped to your door is $1010.

Ive heard both the Infinity set that was recommended & the HSU set. The Infinity while is good for the money , it is not all THAT great. However the HSU speakers are SO good for the money i was considering selling my setup to get them. They perform far better than their price point!! Well worth the $!!

Im sure the SVS set is good as well but more$.

A huge +1 for the HSU Enthusiast system!!!

First, I need to correct myself on the Infinity bookshelf; I meant to say P163, not P363.:D

Here is the review/measurements for the Infinity P162:
SoundStage! - The Audio Authority - www.SoundStage.com - Infinity Primus P162 Loudspeakers
SoundStage! Measurements - Infinity Primus P162 Loudspeakers (11/2008)

And here are the review of the Infinity P360:
Infinity Primus 360 loudspeaker | Stereophile.com
Infinity Primus 360 loudspeaker Measurements | Stereophile.com

We may all differ in our opinions of speakers.

A lot of speakers sound "great" to a lot of people.

I mean Bose speakers sound great to a lot of people too.

But what if we look at the objective speaker measurements such as the anechoic on-axis and 60-degree off-axis frequency responses?

Then we can compare speakers objectively.

Of course, in the end, how we subjectively think of the speakers is the most important conclusion.

But if we have never listened to the speakers before, what can we use to guide us?

Subjective opinions?

Or Objective facts?

I would look at the Infinity Primus over the Polk - if you get a veto
from the wife due to size - then look at KEF, they are good.
KEF Kht2005.3 5.1 Speaker Package W/ Kube2 Sub In Black | Accessories4less

Or, look at 5 NHT SuperZero

and the Epik subwoofer
http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/legend.html

Or, the Emotiva sub
http://emotiva.com/ultra_sub12.shtm

If you want to stay NHT - then this sub
