Help with firmware update on a Pioneer VSX-82txs

Both receivers are still Pioneer.
It doesn't matter what they are the answer is still no and not a good solution.

Just get another used receiver at around the $200 point like the one I picked out. In your situation that is really your only option, other than silence.

Would an Integra DHC 80.1 be worth $225.00?
Not for you. You would not want the controls to move in Unison. You will have two stacked preamps. So you would have an S/N problem. So you would have to leave the gain of the power side fixed and not move it, after finding the optimal gain by trial and error. The just use the pre/pro volume. I do not recommend this.

Also I tend to recommend avoiding anything from the Onkyo camp. I would look at Marantz, Denon and Yamaha.

Look at eBay and Accessories4less as recommended above.

By the way have you done your reset yet? You have not posted that you have.

Would both of the volume controls go up and down in unison? They are both Pioneers. I also have a couple of Pioneer’s learn compatible remotes.
Not really, you should use the prepro, or AVR used as prepro for volume control, and you would then set the Pioneer's volume to maximum, but make sure you do NOT use any other inputs to avoid accident. Also never turn the source selection knob to avoid selecting the tuner, network sources etc. You could also try limiting it to few dB lower than maximum, even "0" just to be safe and see if you like the overall effect.

Ok guys, I found a guy in Anchorage that is selling a Marantz NR1604 with an Episode ES-SUB-TRP10-500 sub both for $100.00 does that sound like a fair deal? Or no?
I know those slim line Marantz units. They are quite nice, I got one from my eldest son. However he has a fairly small space and is using speakers of my design which are very sensitive and an easy load to drive. He also only uses a stereo pair, no center or surrounds. Which Polk speakers do you own and how large is your space? A lot of Polk speakers are difficult drives.

Those Marantz units are quite small, and 70 watts per channel. There are pre outs for the sub obviously but also the right and left mains. So it would give you the option of using an external amp for the mains, but you seem short of funds. Those are not the sort of units I would want to push hard.

I think the price is very good. The question is whether it will be adequate for your needs at a power that will not stress it.

The sub I have never heard of and know nothing about it, other then specs which are not helpful. They do sate and FR down to 30 Hz but do not state a 3 db point. From its design I doubt it actually qualifies as a sub and is probably pretty useless. It looks more like what is known as a bass module. Personally I would avoid that one.

Decent amplification is important. My other son has a pair of the same speakers. He had been using an older audio only Sony receiver which recently blew up. So I kitted him out with one of my Quad 33 preamps, and Quad 405-2 power amps. It had been sometime since I had heard those speakers, which had won the US Audio Sound off, driven by what I would consider decent amplification. It was a huge improvement with clear room filling sound. He has a large room. The bass was full and anybody would have been looking for the sub when there was none.

The Polk’s are T50’s but I planed on running those through the VSX82TXS and just running the surrounds from the Marantz. I wasn’t looking for the sub either. The guy is just throwing it in for free. I really am interested in it for solving my HDMI issue. It seemed like to me a fairly inexpensive work around and it was. Just one of those random things that popped up.

Also I have Paradigm surrounds and surround backs. But interestingly my center channel is also a paradigm. (It was a gift that kinda started this whole thing) but the sub is a Polk psw10. This whole setup is something I pieced together and lives in my bedroom. Lol I do have a pretty nice set of Wharfedale’s in My living room and that’s a whole different system.

If I’m going to run the Polk’s on the pioneer, will that in any way affect the room correction on the Marantz? I’m a little fuzzy on how to do this. I’m assuming that the center should also be run from the pioneer. It’s a small center, about like the surrounds.

Forget that idea. The Marantz will be fine in the bedroom. The Pioneer belongs in the recycling center.

Hey, guys, quick question - I’m asking by adding here because it’s along the same lines except the video works but the audio does not. My receiver is a Pioneer Elite VSX-81TXV. And yes, I realize it is ancient, but I’m holding out as long as I can.

So what's the question?
