Help with connecting HDTV to older receiver

Hello everyone, I Panasonic Viera TC-32LX44 that I am having trouble pairing with a Kenwood VR-405 receiver. The Panasonic has an optical output but the Kenwood does not have an optical input. I've been trying to pair by use of rca cables, but haven't had any luck (I really have no idea what I'm doing).

Is there any possible way to pair these two without having to buy a separate converter box, or do I need a new receiver?

I really appreciate any help anyone can provide :)

Welcome to the forum!

From information that I see online for that Kenwood, including the photo below, it does have one optical input. Did you mean that you are already using that optical input and don't have one free, or perhaps you didn't see it there? That optical input would be the best choice for running audio from the TV to the receiver because it will give better quality and allows for surround sound.

If you do need to use the analog RCA connections, then you probably need to turn the speakers on the TV off (likely in the audio menu on the TV) in order for sound to come out of those jacks to your receiver.

Oh wow, do I feel dumb. I didn't notice it because it was covered by a piece of tape ><. Thank you so much!
