Tough call on the speakers. As for the sub, I own the A2-300, you are in for a treat. When I was running subwoofer test tones off my Avia II DVD last night it was literally shaking my walls at 78dbs. It is a great sub for the money.

From what I understand their speakers are a great value for the money as well, but those Energy speakers are nice. I think you could probably flip a coin...

Glen I'm not gonna hold punches. This is a bedroom setup. As such you only really need 2 speakers and maybe a small sub.

I suggest you try out the speaker company. Give em an audition at least.

The others too look at are the Behringer 2030p(can be modded to hifi) and the Infinity Beta 20s(drivers can be used for hifi)

Does the price change after factoring in shipping costs? IMO, go with the more cost effective option.

I have a 7.1 setup in my master bedroom but because after ork, the GF and I would rather relax in bed than watch the main system, we watch TV in there 90% of the time. So I always tell people if you majority of TV watching is in the bedroom than sure go for 5.1 or even 7.1, but if just casual watching, then I also agree a pair of very good speakers (and maybe a sub) will be all you need. Maybe even a soundbar because space is limited in bedrooms. But with preoper placement a bedroom system can sound just as good as a dedicated system.

I'm all for the in bed part, but who needs a T.V.? ;)

5.1 can work in a bedroom, but because the bed is usually up against a wall, you face some challenges in getting the surrounds to integrate properly.

i do watch about 60% of tv and movies in my room considering i have roomates. As far as shipping, thats included in both prices. i can easily fit a 5.1 setup in this room. I already have an onkyo 506. so let me know. the sub is a definate and purshased.

fredk, I say your commment on implementation is dependant on the speaker themselves. Mine work very well in my bedroom 7.1 setup and blend quite well.

Mathew. I have no experience with 7.1 so I can't comment on that setup.

fred, I truly feel a good 5.1 setup can rival a good 7.1 in most cases. You also have to remember that most movies are encoded with just 5.1 (even most Blurays) 7.1 is great if you have a big room, but for a bedroom system than 5.1 will be more than enough. In fact with my set-up. I barely hear the rear back channels, but then again I mostly watch HD Sat TV in 5.1, I try the simulated 7.1 but it doesnt really add much. I have it but barely use it, only on that rare occassion when I watch a Bluray or HD-DVD in the bedroom setup, but most movies I prefer to watch on the main system (which does benefit very well with 7.1)

7.1 is great if you have a big room, but for a bedroom system than 5.1
Thats my understianding. I have a lot of things I could do to improve my system before I personally would consider 7.1: multiple subs, room treatments, an updated receiver...

Can you return either of these systems if you don't like them?? Thats the nice thing about ID companies like Axiom, Aperion etc. You have a 30 day trial period during which you can upgrade or return the system. There is a cost, but return shipping is not a lot.
