Help with a small problem on my SVS

Hi there,

I have a small problem. I was cleaning my SVS sub the other day because it was really dusty and I used a damp cloth. I notice now that I have three circle marks but I don't know if it was because I used a damp cloth or not. Perhaps it was raining and the window was slightly open. I don't know.

But it is noticeable.

Zoom in a bit and increase the brightness to see the three circle marks on the surface.

I tried cleaning it but they won't come out. If I try to clean it with a damp cloth or with cleaning solution, it looks fine, no marks whatsoever, but then as soon as it dries up, those three marks are still there.

Funny, those marks werent' there a few days ago which makes me worried how they got there in the first place. I am quite critical of these things. So now this is bugging me to no end.

Please tell me that there is something I can use to rid these circle marks from the sub. There has to be something.

Black shoe polish - the kind with the foam top. Test some on the bottom and see how it blends in. If that area gets a lot of sun, and there were water marks from rain, the water probably acted like a magnifying glass and faded the finish. I'd email Ron at SVS first to see what he says.

I sent SVS an email. Hopefully they can help me out. Are there any SVS owners here who are in a similar predicament (or were) ? I could use your advice.

Ggunnel, what kind of cleaner would be best to use, and how do I know that it won't make the problem worse ?

The surface is covered in textured vinyl, so I would look up how to clean that. Don't worry so much about it - it doesn't affect the performance of the sub

Yah! But how annoying. I used some of that non-slip rubber mat to prevent a lava lamp from vibrating off my towers. Now the finish is "bumpy" where the mat was sitting. I could kick myself in the a$$. Fortunately my knees don't bend that way.

So I bought a new set of (7) speakers.

I try to avoid putting anything on my speakers. I've had some things stain my pine shelves before too, so I know where he's coming from, but it this sub is black. Nobody else will ever know.

Have you seen those circle marks yet ? Just zoom in a bit and increase the brightness.

Thanks for the advice. Shoe polish ? Would that in any way make things worse ? What if it doesn't blend in. Can it just be wiped off if it dries up or would that be another "dent" in the finish ?

I read on AVS forum and a member there recommended that I use mayonnaise. Yes. That's right. Can anyone confirm this ?

I just hope that I won't make things worse by trying to get rid of those circle marks. I think it's obvious that it's water marks because water marks usually leave circles like those in the pic.

Mayo or any other oil/fat based food-type product will eventually dry also, so it is not a permanent solution.

Shoe polish is not a bad idea, but even some kind of wood cleaner/wax (I use Guardsman on all my speakers/furniture) might do the trick too.

I emailed Ron from SVS and he said that I should use some vinegar together with some alcohol. He also tells me that there will be no ill effects if the circle marks don't come out.

But he is confident that that will solve my problems. I'll try it out soon.
