Help, will my speakers work with this receiver?

I am setting up my new home theater and I have purchased these components…

Fronts and Backs
http://www.mordauntshort.com/specifications.php?PID=25&Title=Specifications

Center
http://www.mordauntshort.com/specifications.php?PID=26&Title=Specifications

Sub-Woofer
http://www.mordauntshort.com/specifications.php?PID=28&Title=Specifications

Receiver
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-CASJE9uRcH8/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=10420&tab=essential_info&i=033AV2807B#Tab

The receiver owner's manual says:
Speaker = Front A, B --> Impedance = 6 - 16 Ω/ohms
Speaker = Front A+B --> Impedance = 8 - 16 Ω/ohms
Speaker = Center, Surround, Surround back --> Impedance = 6 - 16 Ω/ohms

The owner's manual says:
"When using speakers with an impedance below the designated value (for example 4 Ω/ohms), playing for long periods of time with the volume high could cause the temperature to rise, activating the protection circuit."

Also my speakers say: 4-8Ω what is that mean? Is it 4 or is 8? Why do they indicate two values? 4 ohms and 8 ohms?
Same thing with the receiver; it says 6 - 16, so is it 6Ω or is 16Ω I don't get it.

Please let me know if I have a good match or do I need more powerful speakers? I am afraid this receiver is too much for these speakers.

I want to make sure my receiver will be able to drive the speakers

Please advice, thanks.

When the speaker specs say '4-8 ohms' it likely means that they are 8 ohms nominal but dip as low as 4 ohms and that is pretty typical. When the receiver says 6-16 ohms that means that it is best to use speakers with a nominal impedance between 6 and 16 ohms. A speaker with a nominal impedance of 6 ohms will dip below 6 ohms so the receiver should be fine with your speakers. It is 4 ohm nominal speakers that would present a challenge and that is the case for which the warning about playing at high volumes for long periods of time is provided.

The nominal impedance is roughly equivalent to the average impedance over the entire frequency range the speaker is designed to reproduce.

Even the 900 series are pretty easy to drive, so you shouldn't have any problem with the 2807 and those guys. Check out www.ac4l.com for great deals on the Mordaunts.

I'm not trying to argue but Mordaunts are not white van speakers. They are IMO pretty darn good speakers. As long as the dealer is authorized I don't think Eduardo will have any problems at all. Like Garcia said ac4l is a great spot to get a sweet deal on Mordaunts. If it's not too late maybe Eduardo could check out some of their sales on Marantz receivers as well. AC$L is an authorized dealer too, so no warranty probs.

Mordaunt Short is a well known British brand who has been around for many years, so I don't know where you came up the White Van stuff. I just realized he already purchased these speakers already, but my answer still stands - that receiver will be perfectly fine with those speakers.

All I said is to be CAREFUL they LOOK like some white van copycats a recently found... Just because I never heard of a brand and was expressing caution is not reason to be defensive, if Mordaunt is a good speaker great!

Thank you!

MDS, j_garcia, Darth_Mike, Takeereasy:

I have read all your posts and they have been very helpful. I did already buy the speakers and the receiver. The speakers are original Mordaunt Short speakers. They came from a reputable and one of the few authorized Mourdaunt Short distributors.

Again, thank you all for all who replied to my post.

Regards,

Eduardo

Funny thing about speakers.

You can have the best speakers in the world, have great reviews on 'em and get 'em for a great price but, after listening, you may find they don't suit your tastes.

As I advise for anyone who is buying speakers based on other than personal listening, make sure you can return 'em without taking too big a hit.
