Hi,

I am installing a new surround 5.1 A/V in my bedroom. My wife and I have decided to go the in-wall route for aesthetic reasons. Still I do watch a fair amount of movies in the bedroom and want to have a decent setup. The receiver will be Onkyo 674 and the sub a decent 8".

My bedroom is pretty large (35'x25') with high ceiling (10'). My budget is $4,000 max just for the speakers excluding the sub. I am trying to get a recommendation from people in the know since I have little experience with in-walls.

My main living room setup includes Polk RTi6 in front, CSi3 center and 6750 satellite surrounds. Sub is Polk PSW404. I use a Yamaha V559 as receiver. I have been happy with the overall experience with the Polk and heard that their in-wall were a decent bang for the buck so I decided to have a look at them.

I purchase a new TV from Crutchfield and got a set of in-walls Polk with it. I got the RC85i in front/ TC265i in center/ RC65i for surround. But before I put the speakers in the walls I decided to give them a go in my leaving room downstair.

I a word, I was very disapointed. I simulated in -wall conditions by putting the speakers in small cabinets with a bit of R22 arround it. The sound was very small and the overall effect was quiet underwhelming. Now, I was prepared for it. I know a good bookshelf setup will sound better that most in-walls but I think I can do better. I am now looking at returning the Polks and getting something a bit more serious. Here is the different models I am looking at. Please fell free to advise I you thing I will get a significantly better experience overall than with the in-wall Polks.

1. Sonance Virtuoso 8" V831
2. MK Sound SW95 (6.5" tweeter)
3. B&W CWM 800

I know a system based on those speakers will end being $1,000 to $2,500 than the Polk I just got but I think I am ready to spend the extra dough if I can hear a big improvement over the Polk.

Thanks for taking the time to recommend anything you have in mind.

I think you better include a better sub in your budget. I doubt a 8" sub can handle a 35'x25' room.
