I am a newbie so please excuse my ignorance. I havent owned a decent stereo in 20 years and plan to get back into the game. I recently made a foolish moved and put the carriage in front of the horse and purchased a set of Polk RTi12's and the LSiC center channel without having a exsisting reciever or amp. I plan to buy adequate Polks for suround including a sub and a dcent CD player, my questions are regarding the reciever/preamp/ and amp.

What are the pros and cons (if any) to getting a reciever with a additonal amp vs getting a preamp, amp and tuner. (Is it a simple as just getting a tuner?)

I was suggested going for either Outlaw or NAD, both seem to be top of the line.

My usage is 70% music (Rock) and 30% movies/ps3 gaming.

I already have sony 40" bravia hd tv and want to make sure I buy right when chosing my power supply.

Welcome to the forum. The difference between getting a receiver and separate amp and pre and tuner is cost. You can spend 1000's on separates when a good receiver will give you everything you need at a fraction of the cost...Good luck :D

The only potential issue with a receiver is the LSiC as the LSI series is 4 ohms. If that is the only 4 ohm speaker in the set then you may get away with it.

A receiver is an all-in-one box with preamp, preprocessor, amplifier, and tuner and in general will offer far more processing and connectivity options at a much lower price than a separate preamp and amp. A separate amp however will be able to deal with low impedance speakers. If you need more stable amplification, a receiver with pre-outs connected to a separate amplifier is the best combination.
