Hi,

My name is Alex and I'm an audioholic!

I have a pair of Monitor Audio Gold Ref 20 and one of the speakers terminal is broken in half (the middle part that has a vertical hole in it where you were supposed to stick the wire in it, well half is gone). There is still like 2 raws of thread left on it and it can be used like this but I was wondering if it's possible to fix it and how?

I appreciate it.

Are you talking about the screw part? Looking at a picture it seems like they used a different style binding post than usual. You may want to simply contact Monitor Audio and see about getting a replacement.

Yes, indeed. I'm talking about the screw part. Most of screw with the hole in it and the thread is gone. The remaining screw part has some "gutter" left plus 2 crests/rows of thread. And the screwing cap, I have it too.

I think these are very similar and would work, if you can't get any joy from Monitor audio. This style of connector seems quite prevalent in the UK. Soldering will be required to effect this repair.

Thank you!

I've talked to MA about the broken terminal and they said that I have to order the entire crossover ($60). What do you think?

You may be able to fix it yourself but im sure it will involve doing some modifications. $60 seems very reasonable for a new crossover and binding posts if you ask me.

Don't you find it strange that the crossover is only $60? According to my info, these are 3-way speakers, right?

Without good pictures of how the terminals are attached to the crossover board, I have no idea what to think. However I have to say, I doubt I would be buying a new crossover for a broken terminal.

Can you remove the crossover and send some detailed pictures? Also some idea of your technical competence would be helpful in making the decision to advise you to make this repair.

This speaker is a 2 and a half way and not a three way. Monitor Audio, favor generally low order crossovers, that work with the acoustic roll off of the drivers, so the part count is low. They obviously can build and sell the crossover for $60.

Well, it also depends on quality of the parts. Some exotic capacitors and coils cost more then $60 per piece. I'd be curious top see this crossover, so if you can post a picture.
Usually up to 4k price sticker, x-overs are field with electrolytics and thin gage iron core coils that don't cost a lot, so it's quite possible.
Picture pleas?
