Hi

I am new to home audio and just bought the entry level Pioneer VSX 515-S receiver. I have an older sub i wanted to hook up, but the sub connection is just two exposed wires (just like my main & surround speakers). The sub pre out connection on my receiver looks like an RCA input. Is there any way i can make this work until i can get a new sub?

Thanks for your help

Try this:

connectworld.net/cgi-bin/iec/L7422-01?TjCqsUcI;;11

Or any other connector like it. Cheers.

Edit:
Center post is always positive (+) and outside ring is always negative (-)

do i need a powered sub to work with a pre-out connection? or will my passive sub work with the pre-out connection?

Nope, the passive sub you have WILL NOT work with a sub out on newer receivers with an RCA plug. You do need an amp, or a powered sub.

You can buy an amp probably cheaper than a new sub:
Behringer A500, can be bridged, if your sub is 8 ohms. Cost is $180.
Search this site for this amp:D
