hello everybody, this is my first post so hope do it right, I'm trying to set up a home theater system, my budget around 1,000. I been looking around and I came out with this option.
RECEIVER - HARMAN KARDON AVR 254 7x50W 7.1 CHANNEL WITH HDMI

SPEAKERS - INFINITY TSS-500 5.1
I really appreciate your suggestions either getting other receiver or another set of speakers on this price range, I could go little higher if there is something better out there.
I'll use it for movies, and listen Pop Rock music, my room size is 18' x 15' and 12' H.
floor is ceramic tile.
once again, thank you very much for any advise.

Are you willing to look in the used market. Speaker technology doesnt change year to year like receievers do. You will have a much better chance of getting some really good speakers that way.

As for your room, I would recomend a large area rug to cover those tiles.

That Infinity speaker setup isn't bad - but for that budget you can do much better. Energy & TSC to name two - are easily better.

HK has an ebay outlet - you can get the 254 there - refurbished - for around $225 or so plus shipping. It comes with the original 2 year warranty. AFAIK they are the only one that gives you the 2 year warranty on refurbished.

Personally I'd opt for something like the Onkyo 607 or RC-160. It has more HDMI ports than the 254 and is much more trouble free. The HKs for the past few years haven't been the pinnacle of reliability they once were known for.

Thanks for the reply.
I wouldn't mind some used ones, which would be your suggestion

Thanks, I check prices for the Tx-sr607 and the RC 160. they both look good, and with any of this 2 I'll stay in the $5 or $600 dls range for the speakers, if i decide to go around 8 to 900 for speakers, which speakers will be better deal for me?

And this TS set up VS the Klipsch F-1 Home Theater sys, what would be my best bet? some body mention this speakers in previous posts.

IMHO the Speaker Company offers more bang for the buck, I have looked for the Klipsch F-1 and they are almost double the price of the TSC set the specs for both are really close. If you could save more money I would take out the sub from the TSC and replace it with a Sub from one of the following HSU,SVS,Outlaw or Epik. Just M.O. I have just found out that the sale on the TST1 has ended they are back to full price $699.97

I'm looking for the TST1 on the web you told me, and only can see the TST2 and the TST3, dou you know why they don't have it online? are any of this two better or should wait to see if they have again the TST1?

I would not go with infinity and this is from personal experience. I actually had that same exact setup, the next day I took it back. The sound wasn't any better than my tv speakers.

If anything I would go with some paradigm atoms v.6 from their monitor series. At $320 pair they sound better than anything you can get at your typical retail store like Best Buy and Fry's. Pair them to a yamaha rx-465 rcvr which runs for about $300 and you're good to go. And again I've had this setup as well, the only difference was that I had the rx-463 (older model).

Unfortunately you can only find paradigm speakers at a hometheater dealer. A good 5.1 setup will run you about $1500, but who said you need the whole setup right away. Patience is key, do some more research and check out other outlets to be sure of your purchase. And if you can I highly highly recommend that you listen before you buy.

Good luck

I have noticed that as well I don't have a clue as to why. The TST3 would be better than the previous two. The TST1 had a sensitivity of 90 or 91 can't remember TST2 93 and the TST3 95 if you can swing it, spring for the TST3 if not the TST2 would be my next choice.
